Well - finally finished PP on the best of my pics from the D70 trip to Stockton Beach. Great to catch up with Heath for the first time and renew acquaintances with Sheepie, Radar and (of course) Birddog.
Here are my faves from my first batch of shots (click an image to see a larger version).

Great shots, Stubbsy. The pics wouldn't have the same impact without the clouds!

Great shots Stubsy. I particularly like the 3rd with the cloud (finger of the divine) pointing to the truck coming over the rise. Well done.

Great photos Peter !
Thanks for the info: 12-24 Nikkon with CP - PP in photoshop using a layer mask to recover the sand detail.
Who said you shouldn't use a CP one a wide angle ?
The 12-24mm is a great lens isn't it ? and you applied it very well.
Cheers

Christian I frequently use the CP on my 12-24 when taking shots like these with cloud. I have a standard (ie not thin) Hoya CP. While I get a small amount of vignetting occasionally it's nothing you really notice and it really makes the clouds zing!

Great shots Stubbsy,
#1 and #3 are my favourites. Shows how "busy" the beach can get. With the wind we have been getting today, all those nice lines are gone, those shots never to be repeated
. That's the beach for you, ready for our next visit.
Well done,
Radar.

As birddog has already said we'll do this again. You'll have a ball. It was a shit day Sat AM then whammo - rain cleared and hello Mr sun, no wind and all those lovely clouds (I have probably 100 cloud shots
)
Knowing your style of photography a little I reckon the dunes would be great fun for you (and nothing like "home").
Plus if you do come I have a few nice reds we can all share - Saturday evening Mr & Mrs Sheepie, Mr & Mrs Briddog, Heath and myself shared a 1992 Draytons Shiraz (courtesy of the Sheepies) and a 1995 Ingolby Cab Sav and a 1998 Tyrrells Coonawarra Shiraz (courtesy of me) plus some Spanish & Italian food - yummmm

Sounds cool Peter.
Looking at the shots you have all taken from that day...well it's exactly the type of location I'm after. I'm DEFINATELY in next time you go up there. Hope I get those gorgeous clouds and light that you guys eventually got.
Once again, nice work Peter.

Stunning shots Peter! But did you catch any fish?
Or more importantly...did you catch a decisive moment?

Caught some fish in a paella dish at the Spanish restaurant
I have a fall back decisive moment, but want/need better.

Thank you all for your comments.
Leon - I don't count your car digging itself into the sand as a decisive moment - it's more of an indecisive moment

Great shots Peter, having just purchased the 12-24 lens I look forward to creating beautiful scenes like these.
