actually you dont see too many of these around sydney but this is the second time I have seen a pair whilst out bushwalking at maraylya
This was last weekend when it was actually sunny.
unfortunately not really sharp and obscured by branches but out of the ordinary for me to see them

one of these days I might manage to see some birds that dont fly away when they see me. might try disguising myself as a tree. (will have to watch out for dogs and wood peckers though.)

The last looks a bit distorted. Is the width/height right? :)
I'm going to be harsh.

Background too busy on most of them.
Angle too steep on the 3rd.
Lighting too harsh. Try the first 2-3 hours in the morning or the last 2 hours of light just before sunset.

thanks Daryl

These were around midday and had no choice with backgrounds
I always try to get what I call representative shots first off, in case the subject clears off, and then try for the money shots, unfortunately these were all that presented themselves and even then I couldnt get close enough.
shame really because they were nice birds. much bigger than the common sulpur crested jobs. You just dont see these around Sydney.

About the early morning light, I probably wont be doing that, hate getting up early, especially in winter but the afternoon is sure possible.

Hi Steve,

you are lucky !
Ever once in a while I see these guys flying from somewhere to somewhere but have no chance at all to take photos.

Cheers,
CD
