hey there guys,
havent' been on for quite a while. school and summer season keeps me busy to no end! I did have some time to shoot though....always time for that! I hope you enjoy. All comments welcome!

This was my first attempt at shooting at night.

Thought this one was the epitome of youth. He is one of the same kids as inthe night shot.

the boy revealed. he is the son of a friend of mine. I altered this shot of use climbing a tree. Thought his colors were dynamic so I B&W the rest.

thanks for the opportunity to share!

Love the first two shots.. The idea of painting the wood shelter with light and keeping the kids in the shaddows is excellent... and the second gives great perspective and envokes memories of childhood... However the third pic just doesn't do it for me, I dont mind the occasional 'B&W with spash of colour' but i'm not sure if it works for this shot.. seems a little cluttered IMO.

I love the second one. It creates an air of mystery (who is that kid?) and fun at the same time. A very interesting, imaginative, and unusual shot.

Great work.

Last shot is really unusual, Tom Sawyer-ish I think!

The last shot in the black and white was made for his momma. Think I should make it a closer crop or just keep the color? the origional is below. I was really looking to focus on his hair and shirt. they seemed to be so vibrant.

as always, such a good time here on d70users.

Storm - I like all three of your shots (#3 in color) they obviously have been shot with creativity in mind - and they work :D

Hi Storm. I like all 3, but my fav is no 2. All 3 are very imaginative. Perhaps the 3rd one would look better with a tighter crop, using the tree limbs as a frame for the boy's face.

Hey there Storm,

For me the second shot is very emotive. Gives me good vibes.
Striking a chord like this is one of the best things a photog can do....and you've done it.

Will have my kids up the tree tomorrow!
Well done and thanks.

That's so much better.

Now just make it either B&W or colour.

Now we're cookin'!

The B&W has a great range of shades of grey and good shadow detail. That's the one for me.

I love the colour one. I think his hair and shirt are gorgeous colours and I just don't get them from the b & w.

Storm - I think the color version stands up pretty nicely as is, but a wee bit tighter crop might be even better. I think we're automatically drawn to a person in a photo and my eyes go straight to the boy without any need for augmenting the colors. I haven't seen many partial color shots that I've liked anyway. They always seem too contrived to me and it distracts from the picture IMO.

Cheers!

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see the last additions before. Still think the color is the way to go. Diversity of opinions makes the world go round!

Got it!!!!!!!

The B&W is it!!!!!!! 8)

Try using the burn tool on the tree truck, it will pull a little more detail out & darken it just a tad!!
Have a play & see what you think????

Great stuff

Cheers
Ray :)
