Tap and 2 problems

Hi all,

Here's a couple of test shots from the weekend. I know they are boring but would appreciate any help on the following: :?

1. I have finally.....& recently started shooting in RAW and am currently getting my head around Nikon Capture. (Thats why your looking at a couple of taps) I noticed the sharpening tool can be quite aggresive (as posted below). But also maybe artistic as well? Especially in close up (pic 1). In my case totally by mistake!
I noticed over sharpening gave a painted/posterized effect, unlike what I have seen in other applications........interesting. Any tips on quick & basic pre-processing in Capture before I read the 160 page manual ?

2. These images should have been larger :?: I have saved the files in Nikon Capture as jpg. I have adjusted the image size in PS ready to post onto Pixspot as I have done for all my posts. BUT....Pixspot will not display the "Larger Image" :?: the window opens & displays an X in the top left corner  therefore, here are the images from the main page. Any ideas???
Hopfullly the larger images can be displayed with your help soon.

Pics are now viewable in my next post in this thread.

Thanks to all in advance

Marcus

Marcus, is the larger image over 500K? I think pixspot doesn't display over 500k.

Are you resizing the image in NC BEFORE saving the jpeg (you should be) otherwise the jpg will be huge

Marcus,

Nice Tap :D

I have PSCS, all I do is manipulate the image in Raw, then o.k it, might play around a bit more in PS then Image size 800 pxls wide for landscape & 400 pxl wide for Portrait. Save as Jpeg dpi 72 then compress to 8 - 12 quality.

Something like that,

Hope that helps or makes sense to you.

Your mate Mic. :D

Glen, Stubbsy & Mic... thanks for your input. I have now gone more aggresive in PSCS and brought the images down to around 200k and they seem to work. I have posted way above this via Pixspot in the past (as always under 800 pixels on the longest edge) so I'm not sure why they would not display :?
Anyway if you can remember my previous question about NC and processing your advice would be appreciated. :D

Here's the painted looking one:

and next the long view: over sharpening I guess?

Don't ya just love taps!!
