Probably a back-focus problem.

Glen was focussing on his back.

The recent thread by Sheetshooter made me think of the different sorts of photography which I would like to try for example large format, though even with dropping prices I will probably buy a D2X before playing with other formats. One other thing I was going to try was a pinhole camera, but then I saw this idea recently. Cost was very reasonable, 50mm X 50mm of extra strong alfoil and 100mm of masking tape. How did I go?

Thanks Glen!
It should be nice on the D2x  and I can beat the Canon 1DS MKII

Nice boke, I mean image! :) What filter thread does it take?

P.S. I thought these were from your new 300 f/4 that must have been faulty. :(

Glen,

Pardon me for saying this, but I suspect that your hole is too big. :)

You are right Gary, that was the perfectly octagonal hole for nice boke, now are using a pin size hole for greater clarity. Now I have learnt why they call them pinhole cameras

Hi Glen

it's great to see you experimenting, it feels good to innovate.
I agree with you large format is something i would love to take up later in life.

I am worried that I won't be able to carry large format later in life. Sheetshooter seems to have a very good system.

Glen

You spoiled it for me. I figured these were extra sharp mobile phone pics

Stubbsy, I had you picking it as my latest Sigma  Price was right, just not sure how to carry this lens in the kit bag

I'm not that cruel Glen.

You have enough burdens to bear

Glen
is there a Sigma variety available ?? I'd like the Nikkor version, but I'm sure it's way too expensive

Also, are you able to velcro filters onto it ?

Glen
If you can clean up the edges of that pinhole...it has to be perfectly round...then you will get sharp images.

Dave, will make you one out of the gold boxes from Nippon Kogaku

Matt, thanks for the tip, my second version was better. Think I will work out what aperture works best and then drill a body cap. I wasn't sure how sharp they can get, you are giving me confidence.

New dream, instead of winning a challenge with a phone camera, to win one with a pinhole D70. :D Of course, just to win one would be a privelege and a miracle

Glen,
You remind me to equip the first prize with that pin hole lens, are you ready?

You are right Birddy, pinhole lens for the winner  They will have passed the test of proving themselves worthy of the pinhole if they win this challenge

Glen,
Should form a consortium and get the lens with trade mark, so we're in the business
Look back over 50 years ago, how Nikon was formed.

I think, Glen, you're now the unopposed Head of Department in relation to D70 Pinhole Photography.

All hail the PinHead!!

 :D

Birddy, they get $200 for lensbabies  How about $50 for a a body cap with a pinhole (we could probably buy faulty ones cheap)

Simon, Pinhead? Doesn't sound flattering yet, I will have to think of a spin on it

No offence intended Glen - I thought the shots and the concept were terrific and I look forward to more examples of your ingenuity.

Nice concept Glen - now you just need to rig up a mechanism for focussing the paper !!!

Did you have to do anything special to get the D70 to take a photo without a lens on??? I haven't tried it, but I thought it might object to it...

Simon, none taken, just think I would prefer Mic's Bridgemaster rather than Pinhead. Leek, nothing to do, even the green focus light still worked, but by the look of the results it was lying

No, I suspect it wasn't. :)

Gary, sounds like you are implying my workmanship and materials may not be up to Nikkor standard?

Glen,

Did you try cleaning the contacts on the rear of the lens ? :)

Glen, couple of questions for you.
If you put your lens on a TC, would you get telephoto?
What if you used two pinholes, would that give you stereo.
I'm sure you'll answer these questions with your next attempt.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:26 pm
by Glen
Philip, pure genius! You have inspired me to use my toilet roll (when I finish using it) for telephoto. Will try using stereo lenses, but don't really want to force people to wear those funny stereo glasses just to view my images. Am also working on using my elbow as a mold to make an aspherical front element.

Glen, since you're going the whole hog, why don't you try to concertina the edges of the lens, it will double as VR and bellows for macro
