Geoff - very nice and candid shot but if I was to make any critique it would be to have more light in the eyes - a childs eyes are the wonderment of the world

Great shot. Agree with Chris that a catch-light in the eyes would have been nice.
Other than that, maybe make the pics a bit smaller when you post (~800 on longest side, and ~600 often works better for portrait orientation). Its much easier to get a feel for the overall pic when you dont have to scroll up and down the page to see the whole pic. Smile; it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
The eyes are the window to the soul, they tell the story. Illuminating the eyes would have given the image extra appeal
l The background, framing and overall tone is GOOD!
Beautiful shot, Geoff. My only critique would be that the left side of the girl's face and both eyes, are a tad too dark for my tastes.

Geoff - nice work! What was your lighting setup?
Chris how would you provide the 'sparkle in the eyes'. All hot to try and get some B&Ws of my kids. Steve Steve

Steve - you could either use fill flash or better still a silver or gold reflector. But consideringchild photography judicious use of flash would probably be better as children tend to be very mobile

Agree with the others Geoff, a bit of light in the eyes would take this to the next level. As presented, it is still a very good shot.
