Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. A photo I took...
...at Birddog's place. Please click for full size (about 500kb).
Nikon F5 Birddog's 70-200mm VR handheld Fujufilm Velvia 100F Photo is auto level adjusted with mild USM to regain the sharpness lost from the scan. Colour is then desaturated in PS. Personally I'd prefer a cleaner background (no tile or pot of plant at the top). Besides those 2 points, any other suggestions such as crop, angle etc? I'll try to improve on the shot based on your suggestions - give me more reasons to go to the mini-meet eh?

Lucky you. I am eating rice to fund my doctor's retirement - however no Soy sauce due to the adverse impact on the blood-pressure. Oh well. Strong geometric elements ina picture work best if they are in alignment and look to be part of the composition rather than just what happened to be behind the subject. In the old days of architecture it was consider that for a structure to look complete it needed to incorporate triangle, rectangles (squares) and circles. This picture has all these elelments and could work very nicely as a succulent in geometry sort of thing of you had moved just a tad to your right and looked at the subject from a symmetrical viewpoint relative to the tiled floor. All too often it is easy to fall into the trap of looking at the central subject with scant regard to the periphery of the picture. This is made more difficult with viewfinders that centre your vision focussing aids and other markings. _______________

Thanks for the tips. I actually took the photo with a slight bias to the right, that's why the tile looks a bit crooked.
Great idea though - I'm going to try incorporating the symmetry thingy into the shot when I get to Birddog's place next!
