Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

ContemplationCan't really decide if belongs in the "neat and in the middle" school or the "rule of thirds" school
Hell, can't even decide if I like it.... If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
I don’t mind the young lady being in the middle at all. I am not a strict advocate of the thirds rule and my only critique would have been to try and make all of the background water

In my opinion the rule of thirds doesnt always apply, the final composition being at the sole discretion of the photographer in order to convey the message.
the main issue with this shot for me though is that the subject should be fully water, the 2 inches or so at the top of the head not in water weakens the shot. Steve
I also find the sand distracting.
The 3rds rule on this shot, would show a stronger disassociation, or refelection I think. Central object tend to have no direction (they are central), where as placing it in a 3rd allows it to move through the frame. I like both schools, this shot is a 3rd school for me. It's a VERY sharp shot regardless! Cheers, --Wade
there has been plenty written about the rule of thirds and that it neednt be rigidly adhered to
because I am lazy, I googled "rule of thirds" and got heaps of hits http://www.palmettobayinc.com/PhotoTutorials/thirds.html was about the first I got explaining basic concepts regards Steve
