Do we need a holiday/happy snaps subforum?

After having a nice little chat with bigpix, I got the idea to actually see what the rest of you thing.

To me this is an Image Reviews and Critiques forum. Any image posted in here is asking for feedback/tips/ideas, what the forum is titled.

BP was/is saying that "considering that I am on holiday and being what the title of this post is, well now what more do I need to say". Which I guess means, he can post anything in here and he doesn't want his image to be critiqued. In tonight's case I wasted a good few minutes suggesting ideas, and I doubt I'm the first.

Now I put it to you would you rather have a seperate holiday/happy snaps forum, to allow this for pure critiquing and image review, or is it OK to post images that "do not need to make an effort for images that I produce" in here?

Thanks,
--Wade

EDIT: BP I hope you don't mind me quoting you in here.
EDIT2: Fix bad quote, lol.

In my opinion it would be nice to differentiate from images that are shared, compared to images where the photographer is after some serious, no-holds-barred, picked-it-to-pieces critiquing. Sometimes it is hard to know what the person:
1. wants
2. can stand

In my opinion (based on some reactions) some people dont want that - they just want to show people what they have been up to. But having said that - i still enjoy browsing and participating in this forum very much :P

I posted here as this is the forum where people actually do the looking/posting.

Any other sub forum might miss those who only look in here, or get replies from poeple who don't view in here. If a mod would prefer this elsewhere, I'm not fussed, I just put it where I thought it was most applicable.

A few of us big senior types are talking about it but -- aside from that the software we use for this forum doesn't actually support "subforums"... aside from that -- we haven't so far seen it as a necessary development.

Now let me give you my opinion on this:

An image is an image is an image, so, whether or not you post it or not, it may or may not incite some level of discussion on it.

That said, if you're putting something in the Image Reviews section, the sheer notion that you're putting it online is saying that you want people to look at it.

Going further from there, if you're wanting people to look at it then why can't a discussion take place? Whether a person chooses to comment or not is entirely their prerogative, but even if we were able and wanted to open a subforum for holiday snaps and the sort, people could still critique and say their bit and you'd still just have to sit there and just deal with it.

The fact of the matter is, you're essentially asking for the power of a moderator for every thread you open on your images... which I highly doubt we're going to give.

If you really don't want someone to comment on your images, which seems a bit ridiculous to me since most people take pictures and then want the commentary, then I might suggest one of two things:

1. Put them on your personal image gallery or webspace.
This way, it might not clutter up the threads here and not only will people be able to not comment but they'll be able to come and see your updates at their own leisure instead of searching through the various threads here in hopes that they might come across your happy snaps thread.
This is the more plausible solution and is one of the reasons why a lot of people choose to host webspaces with the ability to upload images.

2. Create a thread and PM an admin or mod with the request to lock it.
I'm not sure if I'd ever lock a thread at the request of a user just because "they didn't want comments or critiques." Hell, I'd probably tell them to get some webspace and upload some images to it and point friends to it.
That said, I'm not the only admin or mod around this place and, while I have yet to discuss this with the others, it could be a possible solution.
I don't think it's a good solution, but it's a possible solution.

Was there some part of my message earlier today, where I very clearly said that there would be NO HAPPY SNAPS SECTION that was difficult to comprehend?

Thread locked.

Please do not restart this topic; I am, quite frankly, getting quite pissed off about it.
