Managed to get out yesterday to try out the new baby. This lens is tack sharp and I am impressed. Boring shots but I needed to know its capabilities.

This shot has angles all over the place but I still like it myself because of this:

http://www.pixspot.com/displayimage.php?pid=639&fullsize=1

This one is of Neutral Bay wharf:

http://www.pixspot.com/displayimage.php?pid=640&fullsize=1

By the way can anyone let me know how I can post pics directly into a thread from pixspot?

Great shots Chris, really like your lens. Makes that tiny patch of grass at the front of the church look huge

To post an image from pixspot, get image up fullsize in pixspot, rightclick on properties and url will come up, copy url, then go to new page with D70 users and start message, where photo is required press img button (just above message box on right) insert copied url, press img button again to close and voila. This is all IE and windows stuff, not sure about mac

Chris

That range from 12 to 24 really appeals to me. Nice shots.

Did you use a graduated filter? If so which one?

Cheers

Hi Matt

The Sigma is known as Popeye due to its bulging front element so you can’t put filters on the front of the lens. There is a gel filter holder at the back of the lens.

In answer to your question - no filter at all

The wharf one truly is expansive. Very impressive to have a really wide wide-angle lens. :)

Thanks Chris, I have never really had a look at this lens. Just had a quick look over at the Sigma site. The sky seems to have a graduated effect in both of the shots, which had me curious.

Cheers

Matt

Edit: Hang on. I just moved my monitor and graduated affect gone. Duh!!!

Onyx, can you imagine if Chris sticks it on a full frame camera? I still have a 601 around here. Unbeleivable glass for the money, 2-3 years ago this didn't exist except for big dollar primes

Wow - us Mac users are condemned. Had to go into view resources and search out the code and then added the filename and it works.

This was one of the first pics taken with the Sigma 12-24mm at Birddogs.

Thanks for your help Glen

Thought it might be harder on a mac, but working perfectly this end for your photo, looks good

What a great lens. And some nice photos from it too.

I like the wharf shot and the church is good, the curve the lens gives it contrasts with the angles, if it were shot from a lower angle it would really give an imposing view of the church.

Shows what the lens will be capable of in your hands. With these images I can't wait until you get some shots that you don't think are boring.

Cheers

Likewise Chris I went to have a look this morning (as I have the same lens) and I am sure that the images which came up are not the ones referred to???

Hmmm. PixSpot is either down at the moment, or else I cant get to it from work. Weird.

Chris, you can do it fine with the Mac. Im presuming you are using Safari.

Open the pic to the 'big' version. Rightclick (or Ctrl Click) on the pic and choose 'copy image address' or something along those lines. At work, so cant check the exact wording.

Alternatively once the pic is open, drag the pic into the tab area and it will open a new tab with the pic. The correct address will be in the URL field and you can just cut/paste that.

Rob.

Your pictures seem to have been replaced with other images. :?:
I was keen to have a look too.

Pixspot died earlier this year and every image stored there was toast (backup strategy failed). This meant we all had to create new accounts and re upload our pics. Result is that links before that now point to completely unrelated shots - usually taken by different people.
