Comments please on this one i took at the weekend north of Perth,Is the top left too plain,should i have tried to get some clouds up there?.

Stephen,
1: the top left is a bit plain, but it does tend to accentuate the height of the lighthouse. Maybe you could have got a bit closer to the lighthouse and angled the camera more upwards to get the feeling of height. Have you got a circular polarising filter? One of these would have given the sky a richer darker blue colour. The filter would also have enabled you to cut out some of the light reflecting off the left side of the lighthouse which might have given a more even exposure. Also, try cropping off the left hand half of the pic. There's no rule that says you have to use the whole pic.
2. this looks like you are using a polariser from the look of the sky.
3. a polariser would have helped with the sky in this one I reckon.

Thanks John I dont have a polariser as yet but am on the hunt for one now .Would everyone recomend the hoya ones that birdy sells as a good purchase?.,Thanks for the comments ,i wiil keep your points in mind for next time

Stephen, I have polarisers for both my 50 f1.4 and my 18-70 kit lens. They are both Hoya. I bought the one for the 18-70 from Birdy and I think all his are Hoya.
The polariser is great for shots of water, waterfalls, sky and anything with a lot of reflected light. I'm doing a few waterfall shots, so I use the polariser alot.
