Love the pics ww and sheepie
Sheepie, are those tropical fish or cold water? I need to update my fish tank with cold water fish, the tank is part of a wall, so the temperature of the water fluctuates...any suggestions on type of fish I can keep?
Currently I have gold fish in it.
Sorry for the off topics

Here's a rock cod in Melbourne Aquarium (50mm, 1/60s @ f/2.8 ):

…and a leafy sea dragon (50mm, 1/60s @ f/1.8 ):
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/28451437/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://photos22.flickr.com/28451437_20c44045c2.jpg" width="400" height="500" alt="phycodurus eques" /></a>
I would've liked to get more DOF on the latter as the sea dragon's head looks too soft. IIRC, I used ISO800 for both pictures.

Here's a couple of my fish (taken about 16mnths ago when I first got the D70 and aren't the greatest shots).
My 4 foot tank with Malawi Cichlids
Look at these teeth!

Nice pics guys
My wife has many tanks full of cute little cichlids
Short of hopping in the tank with an underwater housing, hard to get a decent shot of them
And talk about Sushi - many times I have walked past her fishroom and there on the grass outside the door - is a $100 plus fish that didnt make it - waiting to be a dog snack
Makes lens lust look cheap

They're Tropical - Cichlids to be exact
If you're wanting fish that last, have character, and look good - you can't go past them. But unless you want to put the heating and filtration required into your tank, you'll have to stick with goldfish
Looks like we have a few cichlid keepers here, so any questions ask away

Actualy marine fish will last longer, and are arguably better looking and more personality
Tangs live up to about 65 years or so. Although they do require more work.

Let's see some more pics of your Moorii - they must be looking good by now! Are they a pair (M+F) or just two males?

I'll bring the camera out tonight, There was a male and a female but alas the male beat the female up (pretty strange as they're normally one of the placid cichlids) and she died about 3mths ago and I haven't been out to replace her yet. He's looking good though, with a nice hump developing.

Ive only got a tropical community tank at home, though I do have a very nice dwarf cichlid in it (Apistogramma Agazzasi - dont know the common name) which I'll try to get a decent shot of tonight.
How do people generally shoot aquarium shots?? Flash?? Close to the glass and lens perpendicular for starters I guess??

I don't use flash as I (generally) have a clean fish tank and two bright fluros, just bump the ISO up as needed. If you need to use flash you'll have place your lens flush with the glass of the tank to ensure no reflection is picked up... try an overhead lamp 1st.

...or run an SB800 remotely, which is what I did - a bit of experimentation is good fun (although the fish start to get annoyed after a while!).

I did wonder what the fish would think about being blasted with gigawatts of light out of my SB800. Poor little guys, with no eye-lids to blink!

Hi Stephen,
Are these from an aquarium in Fremantle in a Fish and Chip shop on a pier?

Some really nice fish. Good to see so many cichlids making an appearance. They are my favorites.

Nice Sailfin Molly you have there. I have a male that looks almost exactly the same. Im guessing its a female due to the length/size of its dorsal fin (not sure on sexing mollies). As for pregnant, pass, but certainly not a 'normal' shape

Is that what they're called lol I have no idea about these, dad just brings them home and pops them in the tank. The male is below, tends to raise its sailfin when it's frisky

Great collection of shots guys - when I was younger I was an avid tropical fish hobbiest and then when I moved out I havent' had any since, but these shots and tanks bring back some awesome memories. Thanx for sharing.
