These were the first shots I tried with the SB800, so any tips would be appreciated. Generally shot in Aperture priority mode letting the flash do its thing.

Comments and tips appreciated.

Hi Pippin,

looks like you found the place okay. It is pretty amazing place at this time of year with all the wildflowers. I hope you were in Redhead the suburb and not with your girlfriend ;)

Your ant pictures are great, I wouldn't want to get bitten by one of those, also really like the last one of the wattle.

Well done,

Radar.

Yeah, it's a good spot. Thanks for putting me onto it Radar.

Took some landscapes too, but none came out due to my stuffing around with my new CPL and not knowing how to use it.

I'll be going back sometime, there is a lot to be seen there, espcially in terms of macro stuff - lots of wildflowers and bees and big nasty ants.

Pippin I like the ants shots, he looks like he is ready to take you on.

Some of the other images though, the focus looks a bit off for me. For example the fourth shot with the bee. The flower to the right of the bee seems sharp and down the stem, but the bee, although I can see detail of her wings, she doesn't appear all that sharp to my eyes.

Of course, I haven't had my eyes checked for a few years......

Deb, the focus on a few isn't perfect. When doing my PPing, I chose the more compositionally interesting ones - provided the bee was in near focus, and as you said the detail is still there.

The 5th photo is the worst case, and really isn't up to standard when I look further.

Nice shots, Nick. :D

Like the others, I liked the ant shots a great deal. Vicious looking little critter.
