Hi tried a few shots of spiders and flys, ants...etc in the garden.

I'm really in need for some tips for taking these sorts of shots, any tips and hints are most welcome. (Any good methods of keeping the subject where you want them ? (other then using dead bugs) ).

I'm sure I can be using the camera and lens better then I am, here is one I like and a cropped version of the same shot.

Thanks for your feedback. :)

I like the first one - the subject is well centered. However, the spider in the closeup shot is slightly out of focus - what lens were you using? Make sure you're aware of the minimum focus distance of the lens you're using to capture these scary buggers!

I'll take a photo of the lens I was using (I don't really have a lot of information on it). Its a 58mm-85mm, 0.45x lens that for that shot was fitted to the front of the standard lens kits (17-70? from memory).

To be honest I don't know if its that great, it got thrown in as a bonus when I bought the camera so I'm a little skeptical about it.
