Shot this at work while showing a coworker how the sb800 works off-body. Wasn't even 'trying' to take her pic.

I thought it looked good with a bit of crop and B&W treatment

comments/critique welcome

Don't you just love those accidental shots that turn pearlers.
I really like it, it suits the B&W the shadows come up really great.

I also like all the detail in the skin too!

Terrific... you could have fun by telling us all about the meticulus lighting set up blah blah :)

Rich,

I love it how it is.

Now show it to me after you've softened the contrast on on the face just a bit. Look at the denim; I'm curious to see that grade of contrast in the face.

Yes, I do think it works like this, but I'm left wondering too ...

:)

love it - but what does the lady herself make of it?

You've captured 'feeling.' Well done.

What was she holding? It is slightly distracting to me as I keep trying to figure out what it is.

here's an excerpt from the novel I'm writing about the lighting setup for this shot:

"As I entered the room, dim flourescent lights flickered softly. Eager to demonstrate my new toy, I quickly cleared room on her desk by snatching up a can of soup she'd intended to have for lunch. As the cold metal can hung heavily in one hand, I set down the sb800 with the other.

As if I'd done it a thousand times before, I drew the hanging D70 body to my face. The cool rubber and plastic felt good against my warm skin. Like a schoolboy on a first date, my index finger darted wildly around the shutter button in anticipation. She looked up, and as her eyes focussed on the shiny new sb800 placed on her desk, she knew. One more time, she was to be the test subject for some toy I'd spent too much money on.

As I pressed the shutter release, the flash fired as planned. For that tiny slice of time, the room shimmered in the most intense light imaginable."

It goes on, but ya know, I don't wanna bore you :P

I'll never tell, it would make the shot too boring

With the stark contrast and the b&w, she of course, thinks it makes her look old. . .

Love the shot and the prose... B&W treatment works very well

Did you give the photo to your friend. I reckon she'd be chuffed.
