IMHO you did a great job. its difficult shoting portraits in full sunlight, but i think you manage well. And considering you only had a day to learn to use the SB800, well done!! BTW was it a last minute thing? you did really well considering.

Nice work Alex. Brought back some good memories for me when I nervously taxiied away from my instructor for the first time...

I think you've done well - doesn't appear to be a cast of any colour in your shots, shooting in broad daylight can be a bitch! Congrats to you and your friend!

Congrats on a good shoot in difficult light. Im sure he is very happy with the photos?? The SB800 isnt a particularly forgiving beast sometimes, so well done with that too.

His smile at the end says it all really. Coupled to that, I wish that the various instructors I have flown with were that cute

the images really have a good pop to them, what is your setup?
I seem to be losing that pop between shooting and psot production, any tips for retaining colour?

Thank you for the comments. I'm surprised as I found many of these pics a bit disappointing. Anyway, I feel better after you commented.

Lighting was a bit harsh from all directions, I used sb800 in BLTTL as fill flash.

The hardest and trickiest part I found was to quickly and efficiently change lenses. If anyone can give me tips on how I can do this on the go, I'd be greateful. I ran around a lot, bent, sat on knees, etc to capture various moments and I didn't realise but I have muscle pain every where today and I felt totally stuffed last night. It was a great learning experience though. THank you all for your help.

Hi Vrboy,

I didn't do much PPing. All I did, EV tweaking in NC, some levels and contrust + saturation and USM in PS CS. I shot all images raw.

Oh yeah, and I did use an in-camera custom curve.

Judging by the lighting I think you've done a terrific job with the SB800, gee I still haven't got the hang of it Looks like it was a good day all round... Well done.
