...Have to admit I'm Jealous... I've spent the last week trying to improve my moon-photography, and I still have nothing to rival the other members of this forum, but seeing shots like this justs makes me more persistant.

What time of night was this taken ?

At least it we were close, but it is a shame we lost again.

Do you have a prefered time to shoot the full moon ? Someone earlier suggest the best time was around dusk or a little later, when the night was still blue. But obviously it wouldn't be very blue around half time.

(I've tried dusk, and all hours between then and 1 am, I haven't really found a "sweet spot" so to speak.

I'm no moon expert Alpha, these are one of my first (serious) attempts to "shoot the moon". I think at dusk last night it was still a little cloudy?, so my first chance came at half-time. Having the right gear also helps a lot. I do know that shooting when the moon is at 1/4 to 1/2 will give better effects ie.craters more visible, etc. I guess we'll both keep trying, will try again when its on the wane.

Cheers
Marc

May I offer some sugestions.. Any astronomical object will benefit from being high in the night sky, you are photographing through more stable air and the light from the object is being refracted less. This will give you crisper images with better contrast. When shooting low on the horizon, you are looking through a greater amount of atmosphere and you have the effects of the rising air, which leads to a less crisp image. The other tips: always manual focus, stable platform and spot metering with manual compensation.. Hope this helps.
