Macro with Lightsphere II

I have been trying out the LS II with the Nikkor 105 micro.

The light is perfect for macro, soft and diffused. A potential downside is that the LS II sits a long way from the lens when the SB800 is on the camera - which I imagine could be a problem is some situations.

Here's an example

Excellent lighting with that setup. Time for the off shoe extension cord for the flash?

Very nice Greg. Beats my plastic shopping bag wrapped around teh flash :D Might have to look at one of these when funds permit.

I like the shot, not familar with the LS II, but the lighting works really well for this shot.

There have been some LS II discussions here before, this is a good one with a photo

I picked mine up at the AW weekend, and although it does look like tupperware on top of the SB800, it certainly gives very nice light.

Nice shot Greg.
Did you have the sphere on or off?

Or if it's flowers and not wildlife etc., the inbuilt commander mode comes in handy.

Sphere on Joolz.

I will be trying the commander mode - when I get a decent tripod
(hopefully soon), my crappy Velbon will be very useful as a stand
for the SB800.

Big V, I would like one of those but the cost/benefit analysis isn't
favourable!

You got me Birdy, it is my dirty little secret - now out in the open.

I have been looking at the Manfrotto 055PROB (I can't afford Gitzo). And maybe a ball head - not sure about that just yet.

Hi Greg,

Love the shot.

I visited a local orchid exhibition yesterday and found the flash head worked best when vertical and in balanced mode

Can you tell me the Mode and angle of your shot

Thanks

Ray

Thanks Jenno.

I shoot mostly in Aperture priority, and did so with this shot.

The angle was fairly slight - maybe 10 deg from horizontal.

The Lightsphere is mainly used with the SB800 vertical.

cheers

Thanks Greg

What mode did you use on the SB800? TTL or TTLBL
