Agree the first one looks a little softer then the second but I prefer the first one. You must have been close! I love these guys. Just in case you're interested, birds' feathers reflect light and hence why the colours are accentuated with the flash. Always good to use a little fill flash on birds if it's overcast or you're in the shade.
