Hi there,

Can anyone tell me what this bird is? I've looked in my bird book but can't for the life of me find it. (It's probably on the only page I've missed or something stupid)

Thanks

Hmmm....

Think it might be a grey fantail??

Can anyone confirm this?

Kipper are you trying to make me look bad??

That's a really nice shot!

P.S. Why do those two look so different? I know I'm colourblind (I saw my birdie as blue until my other half told me otherwise) but they look totally different to me.

I could be wrong, but the black is quite shiny and under certain lighting conditions they can reflect a bit of light so it sometimes looks a bit shiny and might reflect a bit of blue.

The shot that I took was probably 1.5-2M from the bird. He/she was playing around with me while I was photographing Superb Fairy Wrens and Eastern Yellow Robins. It landed in a tree beside me and was flying in circles around me. They're quite aggressive birds and once they get used to you in their habitat will fly allow you to get closer (sometimes :) ).

I also think your WB is slightly on the cool side.

There seems to be a blue cast on the branch that the bird is standing on, so kipper's theory is probably right. Unless it's a blue spotted gum.
