What do you think of this picture? - Comments pleaseHi All
I'm using this photo as my windows desktop background It was taken on Sunday using a tripod and a Sigma lens I'm not a flower person and therefore would appreciate some opinions about this photo Maximise the window on your screen to open the photo up to the full size Thanks Graham
[MY OPINION]
I think it may be cropped a little too tightly. (The bottom of the flower is chopped off) [/MY OPINION] http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com

i agree with the cropping maybe a portrait view would help.

Thanks Nikonuser and Redline
I was worried about the sharpness and wasn't aware of the tight cropping issue I am now though and do absolutely agree with you both Much appreciated Cheers Graham

As an image in its own right the cropping comments are valid BUT as a desktop background I think it's right as is because it's not too busy where the "standard" user would have the clutter of all their desktop icons. Peter

Isn't it surprising that when the shooter finds a flaw/aspect of an image that they don't like everything else is ignored? I do this all the time. I see something I don't like and concentrate on it so much that my mind 'assumes' that the rest of the image is good... For example I was editing a picture of a bird recently and was concentrating on removing a small red band around it's leg. 20mins later when it was removed I then noticed that the birds head was blurred (motion blur) and the image wasn't usable. Thanks for that Stubbsy
While I was taking the flower photos, our pesky pet possum poked his head up out of his possum box and I managed to snap this photo. In the viewfinder, I thought I had the possums eyes in focus but it seems that the ears are perfectly sharp but not the eyes. Is there a way to tell where the focus really is? or should I have tried to increase the depth of field somehow? Any advice would be very appreciated Thanks Cheers Graham

In the latest versions of NC it will tell you where you had the focus set (image/Show focus area), but DOF varying with lenses this is only ever a rough guide. Peter

That feature only works if you don't recompose the shot after focus though.
If you use the centre focus area, focus, then recompose NC will just show the centre of the image as being focused on. That's my experience anyway Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com

Thanks again folks
Unfortunately I shot the pic in jpg fine not nef and I have NC 4.1 not 4.2 which seems to be the latest version So have learned two things 1. Shoot nef 2. The latest version of software always has a useful enhancement or two! Cheers Graham
The bottlebrush colours are striking Graham. Have another go at Mr(s) Possum as you have a great animal model there within reach.
In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.
