Really nice captures there.

Looks like you got nice and close to the tiger. When I went to the Melbourne Zoo to photograph Ramalon with my 300mm I couldn't get that close

The reptile shots came out really well too considering they were probably behind glass.

NikonUser, that is one thing that I've found about Melbourne Zoo, sometimes it's hard to see them

At Tooronga they didn't have much choice.

Nice work Jamie. The tiger is a great capture. Animals tend to hide from me whenever I point a camera at them so it's good to see them come out to pose occasionally.

nice photos Jamie. What was the EXIF info on #2 & 3 ?? Do you have anymore shots taken with the 50 1.8 ? (I'm considering this lens for a future purchase).

The 3rd shot reminds me of some video footage I captured whilst at the Cairns Zoo a couple of years ago. A huge Boa Constrictor that was shedding came right up to the glass where I was filming and rubbed right past the lens. Watching it on TV is awesome. It's beady little eye's looking at you as it brushes past. They are such interesting creatures....even moreso when they are behind the safety of glass

You are more than welcome to borrow the lens to try it out before you deside to buy one. pm me if you are intrested, we live the same side of the city i see, so getting it to you shouldnt be a problem.

Alex - i was worried that the tiger picture (taken wtih the 70-300 G) would have come out a little soft, as ive heard pictures taken with this lens tend to do.

Manta - Dont worry its not just you they hide from, it took me over 30 shots and going back to the enclosure 3 times just to get one i was happy with.

Nice work Jamie, you would be happy with these and i think they look great.

Well done Jamie! Looks like you had a very productive time at the Zoo. I love the tiger capture. I'd be very happy with that shot! And the colours in the lizard are great!

A very generous offer Jamie....thank you. I might take you up on that sometime in the future. My birthday's coming up soon, so I'm dropping lots of hints to the wife

Perhaps we could meet up sometime and go take some photos somewhere - kind of a Western Suburbs Micro-meet ?!? Of course, at the moment, juggling the spare time with twins is not easy.....but should be able to work out something in the near future (if you're interested) ??

Were the reptile house shots handheld? I presume you couldn't use flash because of the glass.

I was there on Saturday using a 50mm f1.4 lens in the reptile house but without a tripod or monopod had it right down at f1.4 most of the time to try to get enough light. Ended up with most of my shots either blurred still or the ones that weren't had too little dof.

Oh well, next time...
