Help

This is a 30sec image I took in the desert recently. Apart from the fact that I should have had the Long Exp NR on has anyone any idea what the large patches of light in the top left hand corner are? The same light pattern appeared on another camera (D70s) with a different lens. To further confuse the matter I accidentally  left the lens cap on for another shot and the same light appeared. It is very odd. Nothing has been done to the image other than to convert to JPEG.

What you are seeing is called Amplifier Glow or Amp Glow.
It is caused by power supply circuit heating CCD. Well known issue with D70. You can use Long Exp NR to eliminate this problem.
Just remember the total shot time will double, eg. 30 sec exposure= 60sec total time with NR on.
Or you can use dark subtraction method - taking the shot with the lens cap on & subtracting it from actual picture in photo editing program.

Cheers
