The Arseclowns were playing at The Landsdowne at Broadway last night and my brother was sitting in for them on drums...

(They're actually called Los Payasos Del Asno (I think) which just translates to "The Arseclowns")

Excellent execution, the black and White set are in a league of their own
The tight crop on the first one has a nice tonality to it, all round sensational image, particularily like the ones with high contrast, dark shadows

did you get their permission for themto be photographed and published? - just wondering

Do I need their permission, Wendell?

With bands, they usually want the images themselves. They can be used for promotional purposes, I can stick them in my portfolio, and we each get something from it.

Every band I shot their knew I was shooting them, they made no effort to stop me and encouraged me to get the results to them, which I will.

Wendell, I can understand if your mind has been muddled by misleading conversations that have taken place on this forum in the last few days... But let me assure you that Leigh (or anyone else) would not need permission to either photograph or publish those pictures on the web, unless the venue or the event organiser had a policy of no photography...

As I understand Australian Law, he would only need permission if he wanted to sell them for promotional purposes (e.g. in a brochure for the Lansdowne Pub) or if he published them in a way that misrepresented the people's actions (e.g. if they were seen as endorsing a product), or published them in a way that might portray them in a negative way.

He could quite legitimately sell the photos to the band or fans of the band or anyone else as long as they were not used for promotional or misleading reasons without the permission of the people pictured...

There are probably a few more caveats that I should put around that (and I'm working on a more complete description of the Australian law as it applies to photography), so if i've missed anything, then let's please start a new thread rather than hijack this one...

Leigh. Please do the world (well me anyway!) a favour and never get bored again. These shots are masterful unlike others I have refrained from commenting on

You have a fantasic way of getting the images to be evocative rather than picturesque which works brilliantly with this subject matter. Both the colour and B & W are superb.

The post-processing was a combination effort of Adobe's RAW processor on CS2, curves, and Optikverve Labs' Virtual Photographer.

I was using the flash in these shots, and shot them (and the other Landsdowne shots) on a combination between the kit lens and the 70-300G.
I was just removing the flash from the PP work.

They're kind of like rock, folk, country, bluegrass, and some comedy.
They also all, with the exception of my sit-in drummer brother, work at APRA.

The dealings I have had with this august body in the past led me to believe there was no-one with any personality, charisma or talent involved in the joint.

Umm... try this APRA... lol.

Ahh - far more logical.

The APRA of which I spoke (not so glowingly) is the Fed Gov department which oversees banks, insurance companies, super funds and the like. They were the ones with the ultimate responsibility for the HIH debacle, among other things.

And, accordingly, most of the employees are accountants and lawyers, hence my previous comments.

(Broad generalisation for purposes of humour - no wish to offend anyone)

Leigh, they are a great bunch of shots, my fave is the first BW too, although they are all very good. I have done some band photography, and it is much more difficult than it looks (to do it well) - you have absolutely nailed it here. Very impressive.
