A few odd pics from the sand dunes weekend (and not much sand!). First two are long exposures using my new tripod. Click a pic for a larger version.

I had great difficulty cropping this one and I'm still not sure if it works

Hi Peter,

Here are very similar pictures and very similar doubts :)

Mikhail

I think this shows something we all know. Put a number of photographers in a location and they'll all manage to take many similar shots (like your comment in your sand dunes posting).

I think the challenge is to take something different - something that doesn't leap out at you in the scene. That's something I'm trying to discipline myself to do IN ADDITION to taking these "easier" shots. To that end I decided to only use my 50/1.4 for my tin city shots and some of the shots I posted in my sand thread and to try for some different angles as a way of stretching myself to be more creative with my picture taking. I found having no zoom made me concentrate a lot more on framing the image. It was an excellent exercise.

Peter,

Yes, this statement seems to be true.

Actually, during this trip, my creativity was different - almost all my shots were shut in Manual mode and many amongst them using spot metering. OK, let me rephrase it - I was working on mastering of my camera. Next step will be mastering of creativity (if it's possible at all :) )
