I think this shows something we all know. Put a number of photographers in a location and they'll all manage to take many similar shots (like your comment in your sand dunes posting).
I think the challenge is to take something different - something that doesn't leap out at you in the scene. That's something I'm trying to discipline myself to do IN ADDITION to taking these "easier" shots. To that end I decided to only use my 50/1.4 for my
tin city shots and some of the shots I posted in my
sand thread and to try for some different angles as a way of stretching myself to be more creative with my picture taking. I found having no zoom made me concentrate a lot more on framing the image. It was an excellent exercise.
