Semaphore Jetty

Sunset over Semaphore Jetty in Adelaide, South Australia.

Shot this freehand on my way home from work; before going shopping at the local foodland. Colours are interesting but regret leaving the polarising filter on the kitchen table before leaving for work in the morning.

Was the first attempt at a sunset with the D70, not sure I'm happy with the blooming around the sun. I liked the silhouetting of the light poles and other structures. Tried a few different aspect ratio's when cropping, thought the wider format suited the picture better.

Image

Camera: D70s
Lens: 18-70mm DX (kit lens)
Settings: 1/400 - f/10

Shot in RAW; processed in Nikon Capture & PaintShop Pro 8.

Regards

/M.

psionic - I like this pic very much and the blooming from the setting sun adds to the overall feel of the pic. I like the telegraph poles on the left hand side and my only critique would be to remove (by cloning) or crop the solid object out of the right hand side. :D

psionic - I'm with sirhc55 on this one, especially with cloning out or cropping out the notice board in the foreground right hand side.

This shot has bought back many memories of walking down the Sema4 Jetty with my children (know adults).

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging feedback... :)

I guess that the sign board in the right clutters the image and draws your eye away from the centre. I might go back and try some different crops (if I can find time tonight) and try to remove the sign board.

My digital editing skills are still very basic, cropping I can handle but my previous attempts at cloning have been a disaster. I must see about doing something about this soon.

I have another picture of the Semaphore Clock tower in the works that I'll post soon.

I'm glad it brings back memories for some, I've only lived in the area for 5 years and still continue to find interesting things to look at and photograph.

Cheers

psionic, i am with the other as well but i like the shot and well maybe there's a thought for a nite meet as i know there is plenty of nice places with lots of lights to chalange and maybe some spots like the Jetties along the coast there. I know i enjoyed doing some nite pics one late nite of the fountain in Vic square and even along the Torrens there from Uni bridge.

Did the pics with my old fuji and was late like near midnite so who knows but i like your pic. Well done.

Ok I think this works better :D

Image

Changed the aspect ratio slightly, its a little taller than before by about 70 or so pixels.

With the removal of the object in the right I like the way the picture appears less cluttered.

A big thanks to everyone for their suggestions

Yes - Looks better. Nice shot. The dark clouds at the top of the shot make it work nicely.

Removing that box from the RHS has made a huge difference. It makes for a cleaner, less cluttered image. It looks more artistic and less like a "snap shot" now. I really like the new aspect a lot. Good work. :)
