NGK Rally of Melbourne - 3 Sept 05Hey all, here's a few pics from today's trip to the Rally of Melbourne.
I was surprised how close they let the spectators to the road. The photos were taken with a Nikkor AF-s 18-70 f3.5-4.6. Comments welcomed. I'll be out there again tomorrow if anyone is interested in coming out. Cheers, Ray
Great shots Ray, would love to be there but alas I don't have my 18-70MM as it's in for repairs at Camera Clinic. So my 50MM lens is all I have at the moment (70-200 is sold).
Couldn't go today anyway as I was working. Would like to be at Bertolli tomorrow but I don't think it will happen. Darryl (aka Kipper)
Nikon D200
Great pics Ray Love the Evans x2 Corolla and the Evo shot. Any exif data on the shots?
Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
that first shot is very impressive (as are the others, but to me the first is the best).
Looks like the art of panning can be listed amongst your skills I know how hard this is, having done this sort of stuff years ago. Still waiting for an opportunity to have a go with the D70 *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Kipper, I know what u mean, I've got 2 lenses at the camera clinic at the moment. Had to rush out to buy the 18-70mm yesterday!!!

some great action shots Ray,
iam not too fond about the noise issues with the images try not to use anything over 400. say whereabouts is tomorrow races being held and how much? iam free i might decide to come out. Life's pretty straight without drifting

Yeah, I agree with you about the noise but unfortuately, at the time, the sun hadn't crested the trees yet so it was pretty dark. Don't know if you know the Yarra Valley very well but it gets pretty dark under the canopy. The stages being held tomorrow where there are spectator points are at Kalatha and De Bortoli. Ticket prices are $20. See their website: http://www.rallyofmelbourne.com.au/spectators.html Might catch up with you tomorrow. Cheers, Ray
i've being down to the Chandon winery area a couple of months ago.
how far is it to the de bortoli site form melbourne? i slept on the bus trip. Life's pretty straight without drifting

Cracking shots Ray! I like them all seems as though you were nice and close. Very dangerous for both you and the camera gear. They would be easily at home in a rally magazine.
Whilst the tree refllections in the windscreen adds to the mood and mystery in a considerable way, I wonder what it would have been like to add a CPL filter to cut down on those reflections an get a bit more interior detail and added a little more punch to the colours. I know the light may have been cut down but it may have been interesting all the same with a few select shots eg in #1, #3 an perhaps #2 light levels seem high enough to experiment with this. Anyway its just a thought but hell, great shots all the same. marco
