#1 Great capture, lovely colours and detail.

#2 Not sure about the DOF, I would of prefered to see all the leaf (if possible) and found the OOF area distracting.

#3 Great colour, and texture, I some how think its missing something, but what I can't say.

All in all, excellent shots and its nice to see the kit lens delivering :)

Did you defuse the flash light at all?

Nice pictures. The red plant is my picture of choice from this lot, although i am drawn to the abnormal structure in #1

thanks everyone for your feedback. I am always interested to hear why people like certain shots.

WW, I used the diffuser that comes with the SB800. For the 3rd image, (the red leaves), I had the D70 remotely control the SB800, which I was holding right underneath the leaves, so the light is coming up from below.

Basically just playing around with the flash :) It's such a magnificent piece of equipment ! Anyone that does not have one yet should really do themselves a favour and get one (even with the price increase - it is worth every cent !)

I like the first shot a lot.
Nice composition and lighting.
Simple yet effective.

The second does nothing for me. my eyes see the oof area and that seems to stand out more than what is in focus.

The third shot is just a picture of a flower to me, although I dont mind the dark edges

my 2 cents worth.

The first shot - good saturation and use of DOF. The bright tip of the leaf brings the image to life. Nice one.

The second shot doesn't grab me. I find the OOF area a bit too distracting.

I really like the third shot. Great use of light. The transition from bright light (lower left) through to the darker area (upper right) creates a depth that sets it apart from other images of flowers that I have seen (and taken!).
Nicely done.

thanks again everyone for your feedback. It seems that no. 2 is not a favourite. I do agree that the OOF area is a little distracting, however I like it because its different & is not the normal shot you'd expect to see (but that's just me). I might re-shoot this again with more DOF and see what comes of it.

For no. 1 & 3, I tool the SB800 off-camera and moved it's position (handheld) around to create different lighting. This accounts for the "brightness to darkness" look for no. 3

More comments/critiques would be greatly appreciated. Don't hold back....my skin is fairly thick :)
