EOS 20D, 400mm, 1/500s, f/9, ISO 400, 420EX flash + beamer

Birds (and especially raptors) are what got me into photography as a child. I love them!
This one was photographed last month near Alice Springs (mid-morning).

Nice Dave, Wedgies are one of my favorite species of raptors.

If you're up for outings to Werribee Treatment Plant, give us a yell and I'll tell Nicole to make room for one extra

I spotted a Wedge about 2km away at WTP. We saw a bird getting harassed in the sky and I was like "that's a wedge tail". Mainly because you could tell the other birds were probably crows/magpies and the size difference was huge

There are quite a few other Wedge Tail spots out West. Mostly near Yaloak Vale, Werribee and Lerdiberg Gorge are also quite good.

While watching Wedge Tail soars on Glenmore rd I had a Collared Sparrowhawk pratically fly right beside me (< 4M away). He got a fright when he spotted me (was dressed all in grass colored greens).

I have my own key, thanks.
But company can be nice down there. Maybe we can arrange something.

That's cool. I'm too slack to buy my own key as I wouldn't get a years use out of it (going away). When Nicole gets back I expect she'll want to get down there lots to check out the migrating birds.

Dave, do you head out to the You Yangs and Brisbane Ranges much?
Suppose to be good for Rainbow Bee Eaters (You Yangs) around nov->feb.

As for Wedgies, they can be seen regularly on Glenmore Rd if you didn't already know. I went out there for about 3-4 weeks straight every week, some days midweek aswell. They made a show everytime.

Hmmm... I need to get some more wild wedgies. I got a few wild ones last month, but most of the more-exciting images were unfortunately captive animals. For example this bird at the raptor display at the Alice Springs Desert Park:

That's a full-width crop from a 20D. At full size you can see the aerial of the radio tracker attached to its left foot... (you can *just* make it out here)

It's a shame the weather this weekend doesn't look too thrilling...
