First play with a close-up filter

G'day,
After seeing some of the amazing macro stuff posted by the members I just had to have a play ... Only using a close-up filter (Canon 500d) on the 80-400 not a dedicated macro (micro?) lens, but it opens up a whole new world! This is fun
I now know just how hard it is to get any depth of the subject in focus I have a new found respect for those that have posted such amazing macro shots... I think I'm back to the "L" plates
First go at the Melbourne botanical gardens this moaning, any tips or advice eagerly sought as I'm struggling so far I think...
EXIF: F13, ISO200, 100mm, 1 second exp,
EXIF: F16, ISO200, 180mm, 1/3 second exp
EXIF: F16, ISO200, 175mm, 1 second exp
EXIF: F18, ISO200, 270mm, 1/3 second exp
And a long-dead spidey
