Tallangatta, the town that moved

Taken with d70+Kit+CP

the ruins of Old Tallangatta, which moved in the 60's to make way for the hume wier, which, until now, every time I have seen it has had no affect on the town...

Last time I drove though here the wier was at 10% and the land was dry... now it is at 60% everything is starkly insanely un-Australian green and the town is beginning to flood :D

Scott

this is one of your best images
it has almost everything, valley, trees, hills, dirt road, grass, river and clouds
all framed thoughtfully to bring the viewer in for a closer look

The CPL effect adds to the nice tonality of this image
which is very pleasant to look at

That really is insanely green :) I'd try to crop out the brown foreground a bit more and those nosey weeds on the right could be cloned or cropped out :)

No saturation enhancement either :)

I actually left the weeds in there for a contrast... and if I shot any higher I would get powerlines...

What memories :!: :!:

I lived in Albury/Wodonga in the dim past and my cousin was a plumber in old Tallangatta.....used to spend some of summer holidays there

Watched as they moved it .. all the kids thought it was great 8) 8)

My cousin didn't move to the new town but to Beechworth instead .. but that's an entirely different story

I grew up in Albury, and worked 8km north of Beechworth. :) I'm not surprised to see it so green in Tallangatta, because every time I ever went there, it was pouring rain. :D

Did you take any close up photos of anything special at this place? Or is it just landscape now with no town artifacts remaining?

Hey,

Drove through there on last Thurs afternoon taking my daughter to interschools snowsports national titles at Falls Creek. Over the mountains Thredbo - Khancoban - Cooryong - Tallangatta - Mt Beauty. I've never seen the countryside so green. We were impressed with the wierdness of the bare trees standing in the water at Tallangatta. Looked like great photo subjects. Thought to myself...I'll go back there sometime...

Tallangatta - it's a great area. The old train line begs to be 'shot' - everytime I pass through there I want to stop and frame up the old bridges and soil viaducts...

Not a great place to run out of petrol though, as it shuts down at 5pm promptly.....

Nice to see it with a bit of water there.

Cheers

Justin
