Hi guys.

Here are a couple of images taken at the beach this evening, on a very dull day colour-wise. I had the intention of taking photos to turn into black and whites, however after finding this green muck I thought it would enhance the photos quite a bit.

Owen, they are both very good but the last one is tops. I can see them on an inspirational poster somewhere. It is a great shame there are houses in it, but some creative cropping will sort them out.

Awesome images.

I am really liking the long exposure pics i've been seeing these last few weeks.

They're terrific Owen.

I think like the first one slightly more, due to it's flatter perspective, lighter overall tones and the fantastic capture of theat breaking wave on the rock.

Go the green muck! It really enhances the images but I'd still love to see them in black and white.

I like them too Owen. Looks like you used a pretty wide angle lens could you give us the details.

Colour looks fine. I'd be interested to see it in B&W to compare but I think the colour will look better.

Did you get wet?

Owen the colours look pretty good to me. I also think they'll not look as good in B & W, btu I'm happy to be proved wrong :lol:

I love the textures at the front of the second shot...
What time of day were these taken at - what were the shutter speeds / apertures?

I just printed out the second image and it looks really dull... perhaps time to invest in a new printer. Anywho, here's a black and white of it. One thing I noticed is that the textures become more noticable and the green muck practically disappears.

I really gotta admit, the 2nd one looks bloody awesome.. but then i saw the B&W.. and damn its eye catching.. the textures and feeling really pop out... bloody nice work!!

I like the 2nd one. I wonder if a lower crop at the top would get rid of the houses and strengthen the image a little as wel (focus on the low down, dark and mysterious cloud then).

But still great images!

Thanks again for all the comments. I will look at either cropping the second or cloning out the houses... but I kind of like the way that there is something in the distance that your eyes are lead to.

The EXIF data is:
18mm (kit lens)
f 22.0
1/2 sec
ISO200

Taken on a velbon tripod which now has rusty legs

Thanks for the comments guys. They really encourage me to get out more and take more photos - I've been very slack lately. I imagine that real estate that I demolished would have been worth more than I'll make in my lifetime

Did you take by RAW and then swith to JPEG in Capture 4?

Hi Poon. They were shot in Raw and then converted to 16-bit TIFF in Rawshooter Essentials, and then resized and changed to jpeg in photoshop.

The one without the houses is so much better. For me it has removed the ugliness of suburbia and introduced the solitude of nature, it's enhanced the image beautifully. Really good clone work too.

#2 without the houses has a great deal of appeal. The colours are fantastic and the lead up to the horizon does it for me - well done

I like the first shot as it is. the moving water adds dramatic effect.

The second one looks better with the houses cloned out, in my opinion.

#2's a beautiful shot Owen, really nicely framed, great foreground interest... Like the B&W version of it too, totally changes the character of the image...
