Finally got a few minutes to have a play with my 2X converter (picked up for $49) at a secondhand dealer.

Combined with Tamron 70-300 @ 300mm all handheld basically just playing around to see if it worked :D

Fully manual 1/800 sec @f/11 (ignore the exif as it won't pickup on the aperture) with flash

1/320 sec @ f/5.6

The first pic is a real cracker Mark - amazing what one can get out of a 70-300 plus 2x and handheld too - well done :D

nice and sharp. I really want a new 2X for my 80-200 as the one that is here is old and manual focus only.

Wow! Great shots Mark. The bokeh in the second shot is really nice. :)

Thanks for kind comments Folks.

For $49 I'm pretty happy

It does slow things down a bit and of course being fully manual (no TTL readings) it takes a bit of guesswork. But that is the joy of digital. You have an instant proof. If it's not right adjust and go again. :D

I'm looking forward to a bright day with cooperating birds :D
