Hi People
did a search around this site and gathered a few placed that hire out equipment like balltronics
Anyone have experience with other equipment hire suppliers that are around the Sydney CBD area, most of them are further out west and that for me is not at all convenient since i am stuck at the office all day.
I am thinking of hiring a prime lens 200mm f2 or a 70-200 f2.8 VR
for 4 days
thanks in advance.

Perhaps you can hire a 70-200VR but not the 200/2.8 VR.
I don't see many 200/2,8 VR in Australia wide and Baltronics is not going to pull one out of the box to let you hire it, better buy one and use for yourself if you can afford it.

yup 70-200vr is more accessible, but i need one by friday, not going to buy just yet, i decided it's better for me to hire lenses per event more economical that way.

It will hurt you in the long run, from $100.00 -$150.00, if you do it few times then will be 1/2 of the cost of the lens.

wendellt, what sort of prices were you given? I'd be interested in a 300mm F2.8 for the V8's here at Bathurst, do you know if Balltronics hires them?

Hi Wendell, Borge Imaging at Crows Nest 9906 6544 has the 70-200 VR for $66 daily or $99 a weekend. I am using my 70-200 VR, but you are welcome to borrow my 70-210 f4-5.6 or 300/4 if you wish

PS If you think you will do this more than twice I agree with Birddy, buy the Sigma and have hours of viewing pleasure

Thanks for the kind offer, but the wide aperture is most important
Balltronics don't have any 70-200VR lenses in sydney they mostly deal with camera backs and studio equipment
I will try Borge imaging they sound much more affordable I will need to rent over 4 days since i am leaving friday night so need to get it friday day, wil be using it on sat to sun day arrive back on monday but I can't return it till tuesday day because of the public holiday.
$264 all up is good with me.
Thanks again ofr the tip!

Ask just to rent for the weekend Wendell, they may do you a deal? Mind you a Sigma is only just over 1k, you are 25% there if you order this afternoon should be at your door Friday

ps Can also lend you a 85 1.8 if it will get you by in a pinch (or if a Sigma is late arriving)

hi Glen
Very mature reasoning I can understand why your in the finance industry.
it's too late in the week to order a sigma and get no guarantee of delivery before friday, can't get it on friday day because i am working and then after work straight off. Lesson here plan ahead, but i am a last minute kind of guy.
