Nice capture.

It's almost like the view I get while looking through the scope on my .243

Where was this taken? For a minute I thought Healesville but then realised the structure in the background has chairs on a balcony, so I can't place it.

On one hand the washed-out background is distracting, but on the other hand it's helping to obscure some of the details of the background (e.g. the structure).

Were you lying/squatting on the ground and looking up for this shot while someone else stood and provided shade over the roo's head? The shade is a bit uneven.
We can see you're struggling for DOF: while the nose is sharp the eyes are not. Usually I try to keep the eyes sharp and then get as much of the face as sharp as possible. The viewer tends to look to the eyes and then to the rest of the face, and unfortunately tend to get turned off by OOF areas in close portraits like this (no matter how interesting the effect may have been in the viewfinder - I've fallen into this trap too many times ).

Thanks for sharing it!

Location is Ballarat Zoo. I was squating. Managed to take a candid shot when the kangaroo look up. It was midday and they are lazy.

I was testing out the canon 18-55 kit lens. It was hard to get sufficient DOF as the lens is at its minimum focusing distance.

Yes, could have been better if the focus is on the eyes. :)
