Some panoramas....

Here's a few panoramas that I have done... would love to hear what you think...

The first two are from a place called Ardrossan.. which is a small fishing town in South Australia where my pop lives.

This shot is from a wine tour my wife and I did whilst in the barossa valley.

This is the whispering wall just out of Adelaide. Amazing place where the sound waves follow the wall and you can talk on one side and someone can hear you clear as day on the otherside.

The last panorama is from the treetops seaview cabins in Montville, Qld. I took my wife up there last week for the weekend to get away from work, and have a break from the kids :)

hope you enjoyed..

Cheers and take care.

What stitching program did you use? What's your tripod technique? How much overlap between shots? etc. :)

They're fantastic. I can only imagine how much time you have put into making them.

Great work.

(The Montville one brings back memories for me. Recent memories though :) )

I use panorama factory to do the panos.... select 3 control points in each shot to ensure that all stitches nicely....

i allow an overlap of around 1/3 to ensure stitching works nicely...

as usual... i use M mode on the camera... so the ap and shutter speed is always the same throughout the series....

nothing fancy with the tripod... simply rotate between shots...

holla if you need any other info... cheers

thanks for the comments Killakoala... much appreciated...

montville is a wonderful place.. and my wife and i go back each year just to feel 'human' again....

i think the work in getting the shots together is worth it with the end results...

cheers

Great to see some Pano's :)

I've tried a couple, but haven't had great success. Do you use a tripod? If so, how do you approach the panning? Do you simply pan on the tripod, or make some adjustment to the panning point?

sheepie...

i do use a tripod... most definitely...

i just simply pan on the tripod.. nothing fancy...

most of the work goes into stitching the shots together and making any rotations necessary to get the horizon 'theoretically' correct...

i'm trying to get my wife to let me buy a real pano setup so that i can do some 360 degree work...

one other thing... and i'm sure the more experience photogs here will have more to add.. or even correct...

i find it's absolutely important that your exposure is the same through the series... as the sky changes light very quickly... if your exposure is off, the tones of the sky will be very different in each shot... even if there's only a couple of seconds between shots....

either bracket your shots... or use M mode as I do...

please add comment if you have any other tips... as i'm only new to photography and every bit of info helps :)

cheers

They are really good xerebus. I have dabbled in panoramas just enough to know how difficult it is to get a good result (which I have not as yet achieved). These are great, I am inspired to try again. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely Xerebus. I'm from around there at Buderim. We will have to get together and take a few panoramas from the pub at Buderim. Seriously, a pretty good vista from there. Did you get to Mary Cairncross Park at Maleny while in Montville? I think this is one of the great views, and I mean great in world terms. If I ever get proficient at this photography thing I am going to do my Ansell Adams thing from there.

For anyone who hasn't been to Montville, it is now a pale imitation of what it once was in the 70's, which was an artists colony in a little village off an inland escarpment from the coastal plains of the Sunshine Coast. It is now full of busloads of tourists in the main street, 7 days a week, but there are nice little B&B's in the back streets with good views over the coast if you look for them.

Sometimes, you want to take a gun to progress when you remember what things were like. I bet a lot of members remember what Noosa was like before the frigging roundabouts and the gentrification of Hastings street. It could have been worse I guess. :(

Great stuff xerebus

I’m a big fan of panos.
I to use Panorama Factory for mine, it’s the pest pan program I’ve come across & there’s been a few!!!!!!

One thing I try & do is if there’s allot of detail in one part of the pan you are shooting over lap the images by about 80%, this will give the program a good amount of information to play with.
When I look at a seen I work out how many images it would take to achieve what I’m after, then I will add two more shots in the sequence to make shore it will stitch.

Great work mate, keep them coming

Cheers
Ray :P

I am now inspired to try my hand at 'panos'. I have a copy of Pano factory in hand (OK, on hard disk) and a series of pics of Syd Harbour at 0500 the other morning (I was at work) and i'm raring to go.....

Thanks for the inspiration all....

Gregb... thanks for the kind words, and glad i could help get your inspiration for panos back.

Dargan... thanks... we should get together sometime for a shoot. I didn't get to go to Mary Cairncross Park as the weekend was supposed to be about my wife, just happened to be that i managed to smuggle the camera gear in :D I agree with what's happening to Montville.. we've been going there for years and unfortunately watching the area becoming more and more commercialised and flooded with day trippers. My wife and I were just having a great conversation of how we remember Noosa years ago. Pulled out a photo taken from the lookout and there was very little there, just a quiet little getaway town yet to be taken over by the business machine. Sad in many respects.

Raydar... thanks for the comments and input ... much appreciated.

Killakoala.... grab the inspiration by the horns and start stitching! :)

cheers
