Where are the models?

Anyway, I think you did a great job with the B&Ws....esp #3 how you framed Sydney tower into the picture.

I know...
I was most disappointed to miss the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition shoot... but nevertheless I spotted a few good photo locations...
This place is a real candidate for picking the right time of day and the right time of the week... I will return with my tripod and shall then no doubt release another series of shots...

Thanks for your comments about the B&W shots...

When I first looked at my shots from this arvo I was struggling to find something I liked, but lo and behold - some of them look a whole lot better in B&W...

I'm going to compliment you. I find these shots very interesting particuarly because I know the area and it is difficult to taking intersting shots in such a touristy place.

I like your composition very much particuarly the way you use foreground objects to draw the eye into the image.

Fabulous use of contrast in your B&W images John. You've taken what could have been boring and uninteresting subjects and turned them into to works of art.

John - #2 B&W has a great deal of appeal to me. It reminds me of journeys when I was young, taken by rail. #3 would, IMO, look even better without the iconic tower in the shot

I still think that it looks a little more balanced with the tower in the shot though...

hehe - rats, I came here looking for the SI shoot as well....never mind...

Hey leek, I like number 3 in the b&w series. The way that you've composed the image (perhaps they should have built centrepoint slightly more to the right ) makes a good contrast between the new and the old. And because of the distance and perspective, centrepoint looks the lesser of the two buildings, which lends to the motto "they don't build things like they used to."

Really nice conversion to black and white too.

Sorry you missed the models John. You have however inspired me, I work there every day and you managed to come up with shots I hadn't even considered. I am planning on making a habit of bring my camera to work, so if I do get a lunch break I'll snoop around for some interesting shots.

Really liked your collection of shots, especially the black and white ones.

Really like the BW shots.

Thanks Owen - that's more or less what I had in mind when I took the shot...
There's something of an optical illusion going on in that shot as well... Every time I look at it I think that the warehouse is leaning to the left... however when I checked it with rulers in PS it's spot on vertical... It must be something to do with the "weight" of the staircase...

Thanks for that Craig... It's certainly an area rich in photo-ops...
If you go up the staircase at the end of the wharf, there's a really nice shot waiting for you looking down the whole length of the upper parking area... For maximum effect, I would pick a time when there aren't many cars around and on a cloudy day when the shadows are not too harsh... There are also some nice lighting shots to be had in the dark area downstairs - but you will need a tripod for those...

Leek I like the 2nd and 3rd b&w pics a lot. B&W certainly brings out the lines and patterns in the structures

Careful now with the demolition of the Sydney Tower...that may be viewed as a terrorist act

Yep... One has to be careful in these times, but I'm not sure whether A510 would prefer to hear that I'd cloned out the Sydney Tower... They are probably just as on their guard about genetic manipulation
