Was having a play with Oneputts SB800, Beamer and 80-400 VR on my D70s over the weekend.

Not the best shot (wasn't quite quick enough to frame it right) but I think I need to buy some more toys :lol:

Taken just on dusk from around 15 metres.

1/160s @ f5.6
Heavily cropped as I only just got the bird in the top left hand side of frame :oops:

I was wondering if the effect was caused by the VR lens.

Would have been a nice one for the comp if I had nailed the position :oops:

One of these is on my next 'going to get' list.... along with a plamp and sc-29. (... the 'going to get' list is a lot less expensive than the 'want to get' list!!)

It is a device that fits over the SB800 or 600 and magnifies the beam. Great for long shots.

The Kookaburra was about 15m away in very poor light at sunset. I took a couple of shots of the tops of trees with the zoom at 400mm and they were very crisp.

cool shot! and I love the crop - it is very different and interesting. It has more magic about it if you don't tell us why you did it

I think the effect on the wings you are noticing isn't to do with VR but just motion blur based on your shutter speed with a frozen image because of the use of flash.
