Sydney members - lens loaning

Hi all,
With my forthcoming purchases through Birddog I have noticed I have a couple of lenses and with work, family, etc will not be using all of them all the time. Unfortunately they are not flash lenses like Birddog, and you would have to pick them up from my place in Neutral Bay and drop them back. They are probably not worth the expense of posting as they aren't that exotic, but if you only have the kit lens they will offer more reach or faster speed, etc.
The lenses are
20mm 2.8 AF
28mm 2.8 MF
35-70 3.3-4.5 AF
50mm 1.8 AF
35-80 Tamron 2.8-3.8 MF with Macro
70-210 4-5.6 AF
400mm 5.6 MF
1100mm f10.5 Russian (tripod required, can see NZ)
teleconverter 16A Nikon 1.6X
teleconverter tc 200 Nikon 2X
teleconverter Promura 2X (very exotic brand!)
All Nikon unless stated.
I have no problem lending them for a weekend or even a short overseas holiday. I would prefer 20 or so posts up (or known to a long term member, you know the guys who have been here all of three months!) as I don't feel like giving lenses to the first thief who reads this. Just pm me.
Have fun

Extremely generous offer Glen. I don't have a need to take you up on it at the moment but one day I might borrow the 50mm before I make a purchase of one myself.
One of the nicest things about this forum is the trust that seems to have developed between members. I hope nothing ever happens to spoil that.

ajo, I think it is great the trust and camaraderie (no camera pun intended) which has developed here. There are a couple of lenses there which may be unique, the 1100mm especially, or as you say the 50 is nice to try before you buy. I also hope that trust is never lost.

Ajo43,
I have the 50/1.4, 28/1.4, 85/1.4, 105DC/f2, I can loan them to you if you wish to.
I'm too, hope all members in this community maintain and building a solid platform of trust in between for many fruitful benefits arrive.

That's very generous of you Glen, and Birddog - having loaned me a few of his lenses and letting me play with many more.
Having tried out exotic lenses just fuels the lust to own them!

Onyx, you are right about that! In Birddogs list there are some of the more rare and exotic lenses available, the 28mm 1.4 is extremely rare, most haven't seen one which might have something to do with its RRP being $4,469 for an Auto Focus prime. I would borrow it just to stick it on my mantle piece and amaze nikonians who walked in
The 85 1.4 is another lens with a huge reputation and well desreved to.
Again, very generous Birddog.

Always welcome Ray!
Ry,
I have to wait nearly 6 months to get the 28/1.4 today
I've seen one at ESC, used and they want AU$2300.00
Maxwell stock is over AU$3600.00, and today I got the brand new in unopened box for AU$1820.00
And it become rare now, hard to find even in HKG.

Great price Birddog, that is really a great discount. Are you testing it tonight? Mr Poon must have scoured HK or surrounds to find that for you. Another benefit of the buying power of our community.

Yes he did, he sourced hardly since march, HKG has no stock of them, I asked some of my friends who're working in HKG, they can't find it. Finally he found one for me last Friday.
I'm at work to night and tomorrow night

This forum never ceases to amaze me, Glen - what an amazingly wonderful generous offer...Birdy, you're one of the kindest people I've met (and through my job I've met LOADS of people)...what can I say? Hmm...watch your PM's men
Geoff.
PS - If I had something worthwhile to loan, I *promise* I would

Just shows the strength of our little community here !!!
I think I'll be taking Glen up on his offer re the Russian lens if only for the novelty factor. I envisage a relaxing weekend spotting nz sheep amongst other exotic fauna
Might have to call upon Birddog's arsenal to support any further discussion with 'her ladyship' re the need for more glass. That 85 f/1.4 is getting harder to resist by the day!!!

MJ, I was spotting a real cutie in NZ just the other day

With that lens I have no doubt !!!
Am I correct in recalling that you also have an 85/1.8? I'm currently thinking about either a 85/1.4 or 1.8 and the 70-200VR.
Before jumping in I think I need lots more 1on1 with the camera to work out what I really need.
What I would really like of course is a 12-800 f/2.8 but wouldn't we all.

Good memory MJ, I do have a 85 1.8 & 50 1.4. I am not really loaning those out (though you are welcome to take them for a quick hour or so play) because as I am working fairly hard at the moment, those are my two main lenses for my camera as they work at night. I get big seperation issues without those two and they live on the camera, much more than the kit lens. Come and have a play, try my 1.8 or Birdy's 1.4, but in that lens it comes down to money in a big way. The 1.4 is triple the price! Would love a 1.4, but that is a well known legendary lens, so no bargains for a tightarse like me. I did see HKS had it for $855US which is a great price.

Inviting her over for a barbie on the weekend? She'll probably do well on a slow fire.

Didn't Prince Charles recently engage in a campaign to get the Poms to start eating their national dish again - mutton?
And then there was that segment on 60 seconds last Sunday about PETA protesting over Australian wool industry... Looks like sheep are in hot demand the world over!

Thanks for the offer guys
You don’t get to see lenses like some of the ones you have mentioned up here very often
Cheers

A very generous offer mate, especially for us newbies here!
I might take you up on the offer but only in the company of yourself, I would petrified incase something happened to it!
It would certainly beat going to a shop to try out equipment.
Good work fella!

Paul,
Welcome to my base every Saturday (Call first), you can try all my 25 lenses and other gears

Paul,
from personal experience I can say that most shops wouldn't have the Nikon collection you see at Birddog's. I could guarantee not one would have a 28mm 1.4 (not that you are probably looking to buy one of those)

Glen... glad I'm not going completely dotty just yet and seemed to remember you had those... it's the 85/1.8 that interests me in particular.
A hot debate with myself is in progress over the next lens to get... a great worry to my houshold who have no idea what I am ranting about !!!
An 85mm lens is right up there.. but so too is the 70-200... yet I'd love to get some serious reach from a lens so maybe the bigma 50-500...
Oh when will this torment ever end....

Have a try on the 85mm, sure you will love both of them, but the present 70-200 price is unbeatable (at the moment). You can always get a s/h 85mm lens but there are not many 70-200 s/h around. Also except the 70-200 weighs a kilo more, you can also use it for portraits.
