DSLRUSERS Picnic dayHi Folks,
Early of this year Feb 05, we had a pinic day at Bobbin Heads. It was a first day outing with a large group of the D70Users & their families. I would like to do again next year in Feb. 06 for the DSLRUSERS. Place of interest: - Bobbin Head - Nothern Beaches - Your suggestion???????? Can we host a BBQ onsite? with drink? or BYO? Your thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!! Birddog114

Re: DSLRUSERS Pinic day
Would be glad to offer a place for BBQ but our unit is too small for large number of people I've got portable BBQ and can borrow couple more of them There are many places allowing these things Mikhail

Re: DSLRUSERS Pinic day
Usually, we will use or go to some National Parks with BBQ facilities onsite as Bobbin Head. The other major issue of bringing your own BBQ set is, if we have it on the hot day same as Total Fire Ban (it likely happens on Jan/ Feb), then we will be off track. Birddog114

Sounds like a great idea.
Bobbin Head was great this year; what about Royal National Park near Sutherland? It's also handy to the tram museum. Or Parramatta Park, but it's been a very lonnnnnnnng time since I've been there. g.

Wherever we go or choose, pls. take into account the following things: - Shelters if there's a rainy day or hot day - Electric or gas BBQ provided from National Parks. Royal National Park (Sutherland) or at Bundeena, Pinic Point are also good spots. Birddog114

Just an additional idea: Little Manly (nice little park) has shelters and electric BBQs Mikhail

Manly area or little Manly may be crowded during the weekend (summer) and not many things to shoot with, also will it freely to photo people on the beach? Birddog114

I am up for Bobbin Head.
Points in favour are: 1. You can book an area. 2. Good BBQ facilities 3. Shelter if the weather turns bad. 4. Safe area for the kids to play (for those that will bring them) 5. Good halfway point for those that will come from the North and the South of the Sydney CBD. 6. Really close to my place !!!!! Mal
I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.
Little Manly is aside of main Manly beach and wharf, I've been there few times and haven't seen it crowded. There is a little local beach nearby but it is also aside of the park I'm talking about. As abot things to shoot - cove, yachts, birds in the park etc, etc, etc Anyway it was just idea and new place to visit for many people. You don't like it - trash it Mikhail

Mal, It's my first choice and we used to go there many times in the past years, when was time I had my boat, people can do fishing, hiring a dinghy, shooting wildlife, nature etc.., especially few hidden corners arount that area, you may discover the unsual "movement" of few couples Birddog114

I don't think this is approved at Bobbin Head. Bobbin Head....i just saw the funny side of that.... Steve.

I'd like to see us go to Royal National Park, or maybe one of the dams to the south - Cataract Dam seems to be a nice spot, and has facilities for bbq, etc.
Would rather we didn't go to the same spot each time, but I'll be there regardless (unless we've got to go north for the weekend or something! ). *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Cataract Dam is another spot or Royal National Park, whichever is most members preferred.
So the date is Feb. 4 or Feb 11 2006. Birddog114

Now, we talk about BBQ.
- BYO or onsite group BBQ? Onsite BBQ: $5.00/ person or $10.00 for family including soft drink/ All you can eat. Payment will be made on arrival or at the mini meet. Food: Sausages, salads, steaks, lamb, hamburger, bread rolls, chips Drink: Coke, Lemonade, other brand of soft drink. BYO your beers, wine, spirit etc.... If Onsite BBQ, we require exactly the number of attendees. Then we need to prepare foods beforehand, same as seeking few volunteers to run the show. Your thoughts! Birddog114

Bulk preparation of the BBQ sounds good... We are more than willing to help out...
Cataract Dam sounds good... Lane Cove NP is another possibility... Cheers, John

Thanh,
I think I prefer to leave this (food) aspect unorganised; let people bring their own food, and make their own arrangements. Rather than have people working to prepare and cook the food, my preference is for veryone to simply relax and enjoy one anothers' company. If somebody is slaving over a hot BBQ for a couple of hours, they may not be able to enjoy themselves as much. g.

Yes, welcome, and we'll form a panel of chefs and kitchen hands
I'll go for this
Nah! too closed to your base, no good! Birddog114

Jiohn,
Lane Cove NP is an abomination at the moment, and a far cry from what it used to be. Perhaps when they finish all the roadworks in the area they will restore it to what it used to be, but for now, forget it. g.

I tend to agree with Gary - and this way we're not left with a whole heap of unused food, etc. You know what people here are like at committment!!! (no offence intended to anyone in particular) The way the Bobbin Head day worked was good - relaxing for everyone, and a nice social day out. I really like the idea of Cataract - while maybe not as picture perfect as some spots, it won't be totally over-run with others either 11 Feb sounds the better of the two options *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
I agree, we should all relax
Either of those dates looks fine to me, at this time. g.

Is this cataract dam that is near Wollongong? Is this the 11th of Feb that is my birthday?
Things seem to be falling into place quite nicely...
One of the reasons I suggested something a little south is we've had quite a few things on the Northern side now (Bobbin Head, City meets, Newcastle Wetlands, a couple of trips to Stockton, etc.). Time to head south a bit *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
But wait!!!!!! Stubbsy has another outing in the Hunter Valley in Feb. too!
Heading South is just a temp. chance! I love North!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
That's a good point - we need to work timing for this around the Hunter Valley trip. Do we have dates for that yet? Yes, agree North is nice - but we have to remember we have some members in the south as well *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Hunter Valley vineyard harvest trip is the weekend after the Australia Day weekend. At present the public holiday is Thursday 26th. I'm avoiding the weekend immediately after that (28/29) just in case so the date will be February 4 & 5 2006. I know this is the weekend befor the proposed date, but I'm trying to organise this outing so we can be there while the grape harvest and its attendant photo ops are in full swing. Given this depends on the weather there are no guarantees, but this is the best bet date wise.

Make it as the 4 & 5th February for Hunter Valley Wine Tour, and the 11th for Pinic day. If you're OK with it so we start to post in the new calendar of 2006. Birddog114

I notice you have us 'spitting' the wine out on the calendar - I guess we'll all have to have lessons from Stubbsy.
(Perhaps his title should be changed to Chief Wine Spitter!) *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
I only swallow if it's extra good and usually spit. I'm happy to give lessons (but be warned you WILL stay sober). Advance details have now been posted in this thread. Numbers are limited. Peter
