I feel for you Sydneysiders with this going on your doorstep.
I can see both sides of the story but it's sad that it's come to this. Hopefully it won't be too long before one can say 'kebab' and 'Cronulla' in the same sentence with stirring something up.

Still, prawns and Balmain Bugs are nice.

Matt its scary stuff as i grew up around Cronulla. Where the hell is this shit going? I might add the locals were out of hand but these other people had it coming.
The Shire is a lovely place to bring up your offspring or it was until last week. Very sad state of affairs. Tthis is not the end of it by a long shot. Its the beginning! Of something extremely sad.
Jethro

Really? I could've sworn that the racism would have more to do with it than anything else, as well as the ignorance...

It has come to my attention that the DLSusers.net community is being invaded by a small group of Canon users lusting over OUR Nikkor lenses. This has got to STOP.

They are not invited onto our turf, chewing up our valuble bandwidth.

We must make a stand right now and show these filthy Canon users who is boss...

NIKON USERS LET US UNITE AND STOP THESE MARAUDER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

:D :D :D :D :D

I don't think the media caused it, but IMO the attention has made it a bit worse. Without the big headlines and media attention, I don't think there would have been the thousands of people there that they are talking about.

Packs of idiots who might have otherwise been none too wise about the situation would have heard about it and headed down there looking for fights.

But what can you do? That sort of thing sells papers and generates ratings.

This is all very very scary...

The worst thing to do in the fight against terrorism is to become what the terrorists accuse us of doing...

I am very glad at the moment that I live in Canberra...

Shocking stuff, all this stuff. Seems the younger generation are the ones hanging to fight and jump on the band wagon and well i am glad i live where i do, once i used to say glad i live in Australia other than like in USA, but now it is getting to the stage as glad i live here and not in the big cities.

Media just escalates all the hype.

I said "The media is in some what responsible..my 2cents"

Not fully responsible but.

What I mean is....what losp said "IMO the attention has made it a bit worse. Without the big headlines and media attention, I don't think there would have been the thousands of people there that they are talking about. "

The media (TV) can make some people look bad.

Lets take a simple example The show "Survivor" via editing..certain people are made to be villians and others goods.

Another example. is when "Sadam Statue" was taken down by there own people. Those own people was mostly US soldiers. The camera did not show that, It was shown on a SBS/ABC show recently that media can give the wrong info.

shutterbug,
What happens if media companies want to promote your Wedding Photography business in their paper/ TV etc... are they all bad?

Not true all the time, with or without media, this event still have a big noise at locale and overseas, ask the politicians how this happens?
And perhaps Johnny has his hand in it!

They get pay of what they are covering and their sibblings won't have any biscuit on the table if they don't work, it's a simple way of living.
