Birdy, Bathurst is only an hour and a bit to the south, but I'm afraid my weekends, weekdays, days and nights are filled for the next little while.

Enjoy the wine though....

Went out today and bought some wind stopper stretch gloves (very nice but not cheap - based on a recommendation by Daniel_R) and an overjacket and a beanie. I'm ready for anything except summer

Edit: Fixed hyperlink

Haha! Excellent, I guess you could all do my photography assignment too! :)
I'll be there the next weekend if anyone decides to run away and stay in Mudgee.

Here are some interesting places to shoot off the top of my head (I'll add more later as I think of them, it's been a while!):

+Mudgee is supposedly beautiful in an Autumny/Wintery way at the moment, lots of oranges and greys.
+There are hundreds of wineries around and most are quite lovely, I'll let you guys discover them for yourself the hard way. Many good rural vineyard scenes etc. Lots of kangaroos too, haha.
+ The churches and historic buildings in the main street are quite nice in daylight and nightlight, and we can't forget the clock tower!
+Lawson Park is a nice park to visit, the Cudgegong River flows through.
+ You will probably see my artist dad driving around in an absolutely insane brightly coloured van, if you see him stop for a chat and he'll be more than happy to let you take photos!

Places to drive to:

+I think the Henry Lawson festival is on this weekend at Gulgong, which is a quaint little town close to Mudgee.
+ Windamere Dam is around 25km from Mudgee and is quite pretty and you'll pass it on the way to Mudgee from Sydney.
+ Goulbourn River National Park is lovely but a bit of a drive (50km) and is great if you want to bushwalk, it contains "Hands on the Rock' (an aboriginal site) and "The Drip". It's probably not very nice in winter though, more of a summer adventure.

I could go on for hours but I think you will have fun discovering Mudgee for yourself, just make sure you bring home some good wine!

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

EDIT: Yes it will be very cold in Mudgee, but at least it won't be as rainy as Sydney at the moment! (fingers crossed)

Belle

Peter,

you have the "h" missing on your gloves link.

Currently, weather prediction for Sat and Sun is rain, 85% chance on Sat and 90% chance on Sunday. There may be a lot more wine tasting :-)

A link for Mudgee weather:

Got my Canadian gear ready.

Thanks for that Belle,

gives us plenty to do.

I'm sure you'll feel homesick when you start seeing photos posted on the forums next week

Cheers,

André

Thanks Belle

Yes, Henry Lawson Featival is on this weekend and looks interesting. Weather permitting I'm hoping we get to Dunn's Swamp too which comes highly recommended by both a fellow forum member AND the young lady who sold me my new cold/wet weather gear - she just happened to hail from Mudgee herself!

Of course if it's extra cold we could just sleep in. I'm sure I could force myself and maybe even Leigh could manage it

YES! I forgot Dunn's Swamp, that's a lovely area.
Can you remember the lady's name? I probably know her. Ahh, small town fun.

Andre + Peter,
If the weather is not good (rain)
We will haul few good dozen red back to the motel and drink them all, and it's another method of warming up.

belle,
You come back to Mudgee and study for your exams while we're in the region.

As luck would have it I am working on the sunday/monday despite being on paternity leave. Go figure.

There are some great areas surrounding Mudgee, try to get to Hill End for some sunsets, now that is a great village for photos. If you try to go, mind the kangeroos! Incidentally, it aint a short drive.

Would have really liked to have got up to meet a few of you. I'm going to make it to a meet this year if it kills me (or my wife does).

:D
