I'm planning to be in Syd-a-nee on Tuesday 27th June (that's NEXT Tuesday) and I'm planning to go for a wander and take some pics in the city and harbour. I'm thinking to start around 10:30 ish and take the whole day, finishing with a sunset shoot.
Places on my hit list are the Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macs chair and the harbour itself. The idea is to buy a daytripper ticket which is $15 for unlimited bus train & ferry travel for the day and in particular take a few ferry rides - you can go up the Paramatta river past Olympic Park and as far as Paramatta, to Manly or Mosman or Balmain
As those who went with me last time I hit the big city can atest, you'll be certain to have a great day both photographically & socially and I'll keep you moving to make sure we cover lots of ground and take in lots of great city photo ops. Hell I'll even let you have a play with my 10.5 DX fisheye lens
Over the next few days I'll plan a rough itinerary and update the details for the lurkers
For now, please express your interest below.

A fish-eye lens on a ferry... enquiring minds need to know: does it float?

Hi Stubbsy, it was only fate that allowed me to come last time (a very late night the night before at work, letting me take the day off), I'll see what I can organise for next week.

That sounds like an excellent way to spend my birthday Peter... I've been working far to hard recently (which might explain my lack of commentary on your (and other's) photos and general participation in this excellent forum...)
My only reservation is that you mentioned public transport
I'll see if I can arrange a well-earned day off...

Enjoy the day guys sounds absolutely terrific. I shall be thinking of you while I'm on the banks of my Cape York lagoon.
While attending the AIPP northern state conference I had a play with the D200, 70-200VR, 17-55 AND the little 10.5 (what a ripper of a lens and he only wanted $1350 for it - unlikely! I'll be getting mine from Birdy when time comes ). I was hoping to have the D200 and 70-200VR to play with out bush but looks like I'll have to rely on the everfaithful 80-400VR instead All good things come to those that are patient
cheers

That sounds even more appealing - 2 new toys to play with a D2x and a D200... I'll try harder to arrange a day off or take a sickie...

I've just realised I already have Friday off for Kate's Birthday (and a trip to Canberra). So it isn't likely that I can wing another day off, but perhaps I fate will give me some more owed hours between now and then

You can remove the question mark Peter... I've signalled my intention to take Tuesday off... Barring any disastrous events on my project between now and then I'll be there... That said, if the weather is foul on the day, I'll probably cry off and go earn some money instead...

Maybe, I'm not in Sydney on that date, secondly I don't want to get soaked, thirdly it's a working day.

Ahh the joys of uni holidays
Kris and I are keen to come along, provided the weather isn't too miserable. It'd be great to meet a few people, especially as we can't get to the next mini-meet as we're skiing (such a tough life for some ).
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

Sounds like a good set of locations Peter, but it's a fair hike from Watson's Bay to some of the locations you mention... If the numbers remain lowish, I'm more than willing to drive us around... It might give us a little more flexibility - but that's up to you...

John
I must confess to not knowing a lot about Watson's Bay (like I've never been there). But from my reading that area presents a lot of stuff to shoot. If this is not practical I'm happy to hear it since you guys know a lot more about that side of things than I do I'm not wedded to this timetable if there are other things people have to suggest - don't hold back.
So far as playing chauffeur that is a very kind offer, but we are already up to 6 people counting you and I wouldn't be surprised if a few more spoke up between now & then.

Watson Bay? if you can access into HMAS Watson and heap of location to shoot inside the Navy base look over the heads, otherwise nothing there to shoot outside the Navy base and you may get in trouble with all the security guys around.
Or
You can stroll (climb) down to the nude beach just around the corner via a walking track. Perhaps it's more fun there

I wouldn't say there's nothing to shoot there. It amy be a bit too duck-ish for your tastes, but macka and I had a good time when we went a while ago:
It's very touristy, but the cliffs are pretty spectacular.

Have you organised third party insurance for the Tuesday shoot that YOU have organised? I didn't think so. Shame, shame and shame. What if one of YOUR group falls into the ocean off the ferry and gets screwed? EH! You could kiss your wine collection goodbye! Don't you think you are being blatently irresponsible? Who will mind your cats when you are in Goal? Who will mind your D2X..........er....on the other hand, have a nice day. Enjoy. I'll take care of the cats....and things.

I got to meet up with someone else on 4:30pm that day. So latest I have to rock off from the city is 5:00pm I think, after the sunset shots?
I'll stay tuned to see what happens to my schedule.

Try to invade inside the HMAS Watson and you'll see what I meant.
From the inside of HMAS Watson, the vast view over the heads and North Sydney same as the Harbour (Of course with the duck sitting on the water ) from where the old canons are, or down to the swimming pool, next to the tennis court, I fortunately get in there very often.
Apart from it nothing to shoot outside and a fair distance to walk and hilly between the lighthouse and the small beach with Doyles Seafood restaurant thru the cliff over Vauclusse area.

Matt.K,
There're risk and non risk situations of each individual case, it also depends on how do you take it with your point of view
If all of people on this world trust and follow that way, we never had any war nor any casualties which we have seen.
I still wonder: you still have to pay a portion for a Public Liability on your Home & Car Insurance policy. Is it non sense? Yes or No? you all have to comply with.

YiP - What Geoff said is on the money - you can join or leave whenever you want.
Matt - Surely I don't need public liability for somthing like this. We're just a bunch of like minded people going for a wander together.
Birdy - Given your comment that Watsons Bay is no good, where else would you suggest?

I thought Matt K was clearly joking. Am I totally wrong??
I think we can all take responsibility for our own actions and use Sydney ferries at our own risk.

Stubbsy,
The area is vast.
If by car, you can start from Rose Bay, then Vauclusse (Cliffs, over the big sea, light house etc..) then having lunch at Doyles Seafood on the small beach.
From there you can go to Bondi and seeing the Freak.
Actually. daylight shooting around Sydney, is not much thing to shoot IMHO.
The duck on the water, Coat hanger, building, people, you've got all of them covered.
Why don't you take a drive to Blue Mountains and do things as you said.

He's dreaming with his timetable and put his trust on public transport also he pretends he'll run as Tom Hanks during the day shooting.

This is a casual day, people come and go as they please, shoot what they want and what interests them. If they don't like it they wonder off. If time gets away from us, who cares? We're together, enjoying each other's company and having a fine time!!

Birdy, are you ruling out the entire Sydney area as having nothing to shoot!
Yes, with my opinion and within Stubbsy's ideas.
Of course, there're a lot but everyone has difference perspective and the view or preferences to shoot in Sydney CBD.

Geoff,
If it's the true word and wishes then we won't discuss and telling or asking opinion of people where and what to shoot?
Just go and find something peope wants to do or sitting in a cafe with a capucino to kill time.

The last Sydney meet and roam we had was a huge success, that's why I'm as keen as mustard to attend this one. The last one we did there were about 12 of us all up, we walked our feet into the ground but it was a most enjoyable day.
