As per Birddog's suggestion, and using Geoff's suggested location, as
modified by Birddog.
Saturday January 22, starting from around 10:00 am.
BYO everything, and especially your families, and your D70s and related toys.
I've just organised a sunny day, so there will be no excuses for non-attendance.
Who knows, I may even spend a few minutes in the kitchen and make some guacamole and/or salsa, and being a Saturday, the fish markets will be on the way for me.
This a definite; put it in your calendars. In ink, even!
Please note that this post has been edited to take account of a changed venue, so references to Dobroyd Head and Tania Park are no longer relevant.

Myself and Belinda (if she's not working) will definately be there but not until about 3pm ( I am shooting a wedding this day), so PLEASE hang around..I will bring some refreshments and some snacks as well. For the remaining people still around at the leave time, anyone is more than welcome to come back to our place (fortuante enough to have great harbour views) for a light dinner. It's only about a 5-10min drive from the picnic venue to our place, the photo below was taken from Dobroyd Park yesterday with the 70-300G lens:)

Exellent, we should be in will just have to check with the boss.
Birrdy - I will work hard on your order but I would suggest you bring some food as backup as 10kg of lobster might just be a little to much for me to manage, not to mention the 10kg of scotch fillet and however much Chicken you asked for
Looking forward to it.

Dobroyd Head/ Tania Park (Balgowlah Heights)
It has the beaches nearby as: Forty Baskets Beach and Reef Beach, few walking tracks.

I'm guessing by Geoffs BBQ request there are no BBQs there so I'm presuming I should bring cold stuff (not hard since there's only 1 of me!)
Also, as an Out-Of-Towner can you give a little more detail about the location of the venue (I have a Syd street directory so can work out how to get there - plus there's always
http://www.travelmate.com)
Cheers - looking forward to it
PS birddog & others - I'll bring a few aged Hunter reds from my cellar to remind you where I come from

Fantastic, we've got approval of time, location and weather (I will hold you accountable Gary).
Anyway up for a walk? If there are walking tracks nearby, I wouldn't mind getting lost for an hour or so...

Matt,
I presume that by "marine grade", Birddog was referring to build quality as suitable for marine (as in on a boat) usage, rather than US Marines.
Onyx, Birddog mentioned that this is near Reef Beach. Make sure you have your Nokia cellphone/camera with you, to capture those bare breasted booby birds.
Geoff, will those munchies you're going to be bringing be leftovers from the wedding? I'm just trying to figure out how I'll slither down that thin blue line on that photo, to get to your place afterwards.

hahahaha Gary - I want to stay in wedding photography and not become the infamous wedding photographer that steals the 'leftovers' so Belinda and I will prepare some munchies prior to the wedding shoot on Concord, swing by home on the way to Dobroyd Head and provide you with something nice (hoepfully)!
Cheers,
Geoff.

An event that is not only on the northern side of the harbour, but in Godzone Country
How can I refuse an offer so close to home.
Count Chryssine and me as definite starters - I'll try to get her to make some ethnic food (i.e. lots of Garlic
)
See you all on the 22nd

One D70 just isn't quite enough now is it? I'd consider the kit though; I hope they're marine grade!

Do we need to confirm numbers?
I will be there (baring anything unexpected) but can't speak for the whole family....one child has a birthday party to go to, and haven't decided what to do about that one.
I could drive myself....but I only just got my P's yesterday (yeah for me!...long time coming) so I may not be brave enough......
...anyway, enough rambling, if we all come there will be 5 warm bodies.
Cheers
Deb

So far I can see we will have around 30 people in this Family pinic, number will be grown until that day.
Well, I have to do a recon job on this Saturday afternoon or Sunday to see where can we get a fair LZ (landing zone), and perhaps we will have to do an early assault to control a hot LZ on the 22/01.
If we arrive by 11:00, I suspect all good spots will be gone. and we have to loan & move to Geoff's place to wait for him coming back at the end of his wedding job.
Geoff, you know the area very well, so where can we start to look at?

I would like to move next Saturday Pinic at Tania Park backward at
10:00am start.
12:00 lunch/ BBQ/ BYO.
So members can come early and talk about photography, taking photos, exploring beyond the surrounded beaches etc...
We try to get there as early as we can to secure a good spot (I'll recon the area on Sunday) cos we have to leave at 3:00PM for attending my daughter's commitments at the Art school at 5:00pm.
If anyone lives nearby can help to guide me on Sunday is great, I knew the spot but did not know where's the best.

Let's keep fingers crossed.
Bureau of Meteorolgy is most reliable source of weather information but they are mistaken often. I recon this because it's too hard to prdict wind changes in Australia (but not quite sure)

It's my Birthday as well. I will join you at your picnic.
I'll climb the highest mountain around here, and Birdie, if you get out your 10 000 mm with 2x extender, point it towards Vancouver, I'll be standing on the top of The Lion's Mountain. Take my pic and show it to everyone and all can sing me Happy Birthday etc.
Actually I'm going to be jet lagged at a sales conference in Toronto, the Forsaken Collosal City in the most freezing part of Canada. One of these days while I'm enduring their -10 C weather I'm going to report them to the appropriate authorities. Great way to spend the Birthday, trapped in a Hotel with people that are in drunken Frenzies trying to sell radio to everyone they meet.
Anyways, have fun everyone.
