Coffee & Beer meet EOI

PostPosted: Sun Sep 17, 2006 12:31 am

Well, it seems a few people like a good coffee and a better beer. Accordingly, I am willing to suggest the following as a kind of meet:

1. Coffee at Cafe Reschsmooth in the morning.
2. Lunch following at the Cammeray Belgian Beer Cafe (Epoch) for a tasting of good Belgian beer.

If there is sufficient interest, we could do this in November sometime (would need to be a Sunday).

We may need to limit numbers to a FIBD basis.

Any interest?

Hmmm.. might be interesting. I am a big fan of epoch! And its sister restaurant in the rocks, Heritage (which I introduced Firsty and Steffen to earlier this year after the AW mini-meet)

Granted, Heritage provides a better photo opp, but Epoch is a 10 minute walk from my house. :D

And if you want good beer the Lord Nelson at the rocks does great microbrews in a rather photogenic surrounding....

I'd be in... if I was in Sydney...

I'm interested. It would be great to taste some really nice coffee - even if I drink tea. My wife would love to sample some as well(a coffee drinker I'm afraid). And a stop for some of the of amber liquid would be great.
CBD or Rocks area sounds best transportation wise. Cheers, Mick :D :D :D

I had a couple of pints of Old Admiral from the Lord Nelson yesterday! Fantastic stuff.

The original idea of this meet was the coffee on my machine and a short walk to Epoch - this can always be amended to travel from my house to the Rocks.

Will wait to get more feedback.

I'd certainly have an interest in a coffee meet... currently going through all the discover phases to work out what's going to work best for me... equipment wise... so I'd love to get the opportunity to check out some gear and sample the result.

Had a further think about this and I would suggest that, after lunch at Epoch, we can wander/drive down to Tunks Park which is a fantastic natural ampithetre, has an aquaduct (I think) going across the middle of it and goes onto the Middle Harbour - possibly some great shots.

See map:

Matty, I will see if I can arrange it for a Saturday, not sure yet given cricket commitments.

I am keen for this, pending availability of course. I know nothing about the process of making coffee and would like to learn!

Ideally, I would like to make this a Saturday, so will not be able to sort out a date that I can work with for another week or so, but do those interested have a preference for Saturdays or Sundays?

The only other issue with Saturdays is that, if we go to Tunks afterwards, there is likely to be 1-5 cricket matches being played.

Any chance of a little roasting demonstration ???

Sunday is preferable for me, as I'm likely to have cricket on Saturdays. But I'm happy to just have a few beers after cricket too. :)

Shouldn't that read: "But I'm obliged to just have a few beers after cricket too"

Can I ask who you play for?

I am sure I can put on a roasting demonstration!

Indeed it should. ;)

I'm not actually playing cricket, rather I'm coaching it (read umpiring on a Saturday). If you give me US$500 000 I'll quit!

Maybe not this time.

See, we umpire our own games, meaning "it was going down leg, mate" and "sorry mate, didn't hear a thing".....

Patrick I would be interested in this if the day suits. When you mentioned natural amphitheatre, I thought you were going to sing too

If its gunna be a beer meet, how bout some place accessible by public transport so I can really get into the spirit of the meet?! ;)

I'm definitely interested, vote +1 for a Sunday.

Chi, Epoch at Cammeray is one bus stop from the city. The bus stop is 4 metres from the front door, then straight onto the freeway to the city, probably about 7-8 mins in a bus, in a car out of hours about 4 minutes.

Hi there - Patrick - count me in for this; am looking forward to seeing your roast product and experiencing MattyJ's barista skills!

Ok, here's what I am thinking:

Saturday 21st October start at about 10:30/11am at my house for coffees and perhaps a roasting demonstration.

12:30 or so head up to Epoch Belgian Beer Cafe for lunch, beer and chips with mayonnaise.

3pm or so walk or drive down to Northbridge Bridge/Tunks Park for some photos.

I have yet to confirm whether or not I have a cricket match on the 21st (I initially thought I didn't, but confirmation is pending).

I will post with confirmation hopefully very soon.

Cheers

Patrick

hey, I'll probably only be there for the coffee, beer and lunch bit.

Pat - what equipment do you want me to bring? Machine, Grinder, Tamp, Beans, Vacpot, cups, milk jugs ... just let me know!

oh yeah, this is all still pending permission from the missus.

Thanks Matty. Pending numbers, maybe you can bring all of the above - we can try to set up a second 'espresso station'. We can sort it out closer to the time.

Cheers

an easy thing to do is to bring paper take away cups ... less cleaning up.

unless all the others want to take photos of coffee ... in which case, ceramic looks better.

Ahhhh, crap! Forgot about that. Thanks Leon

I will have to look for another date, and, sorry Matty, I think it will have to be a Sunday as I have cricket on Saturdays.

Ok, to revive the idea of a coffee & beer meet, this what I am thinking:

1. Coffee tasting and roasting demo at Cafe Reschsmooth (pending availability, we may have two espresso machines/grinders if Matty J can make it).
2. Lunch at Epoch (Cammeray)
3. Wander down to the bridge down the road (Northbridge?) and Tunks park.

I think I have a Saturday available in the early part of December (either 1st or 2nd Sat). Maybe the 2nd or 9th? If this suits enough people, we can try to lock in.

The 9th won't work for a few of us here, who are already committed to another engagement on that day.

2nd sounds good - I'll be very - ummm - "busy" on the 9th :)

2nd of December looks promising for me. Though this end of the year is mega busy ... I'll let you all know closer to the date.

Patrick, the 2nd sounds good to me. As I am not getting any younger perhaps I should try a coffee as well   . My wife Donna would like to come along also - if you don't have too big of a crowd. Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Ok, just to screw this around even further, I can't do it on the 2nd (will be out of Sydney, and don't want to trust my machine to a bunch of camera geek....I mean photographers  ). This therefore leaves the 9th (which appears to be a no-goer for a few of you) or the 16th (as my cricket match is on the Sunday).

I will put up a poll once I confirm from the CEO that the two Saturdays are in fact free.
