Hey all, Well I STILL can't decide between 17-35, 17-55 or the 24-70 for the D300. SO... if anyone in Sydney with the 24-70 2.8 would like to do a bit of a walk around (should we make it a little mini-meet?) let me know as I would love to borrow the 24-70 for a few hours to test it out on the D300. I'll see how much interest we get for a mini meet and then work on a date / time / location (in the very near future though!!!) Cheers,

I've got a 24-70 but it's in Canon format sorry.
I'd be interested in coming along for a walk around, being in a group affords me more personal safety for when I'm shoving cameras in strange peoples faces.

I've been thinking that a minimeet at the Auburn Botanical Gardens should be held sometime soon.
Thoughts?

Andrew, you'll soon be able to operate a lens hire shop with all those lenses 24-70 is a sweeeeeeeet lens.. feels very mechanical and sturdy. Ample room to hang onto, optically its simply great! AF is what you'd expect from AF-S. -j

There's a Botanical Garden at Auburn?? Sounds like fun. I'd be in that.

Sounds good to me... Can I suggest Sunday the 13th of July as a starting point. Otherwise I am free during weekdays if there are any other photogs put there that don't work during the week I suck at organising these things (I just throw the idea out there) but I will try and keep track of the posts Andrew

You can, and you have. And you have also answered my next question. How does this date sound for everyone else?

Whereabouts in Auburn is this? Are we talking about the one between Auburn and Granville, near the golf course with the Japanese gardens? Thats the only one I know.

I have a 24-70 If you want to try it out on the scenery in the Blue Mountains I am more than happy. I can be free weekdays. But I'm not free on the 13th (my daughter was born on Friday 13 - Explains a lot I think sometimes. Hang on she's a member here. Damn )

Well thanks to Dan (Cre8tive Pixels) I no longer need to borrow a 24-70 to try it out... I used his today and that is it... I am buying that lens (Thanks Dan!!!). BUT, let's still organise the mini-meet at Auburn Botanical Gardens (now the fun starts). Sunday the 13th of July @ 9am (is this to early/late??? I am up at 6am every morning so I tend to suggest very early times which people yell at me for!!!) Andrew (Woody) Gary (Gary) Wheeis - As long as his SWMBO (Whatever the hell that stands for) says yes. Shoot Gerry (biggerry) - as long as he can get the thumbprint from his forehead!!! dviv phoenix - dedication!!! Dan (Cre8tive Pixels) - you coming? I vote you offer to take photos of any member that turns up in a bikini (or less) WOW, this is the most organising I have done in a long time...

It just so happens that I will be in Sydney this coming week, and after church (don't worry Gary, it's not RC and I'm not involved with WYD ), I may be able to stop by at Auburn for an hour or so from 11.30am. Have Canon will travel. Ozi

Hey guys
These gardens are quite beautiful and there are several sections to explore so therefore many photo ops to take. Sunday would be a good time as well since its fairly quiet there.
Anyhoo just thought to remind everyone that if you are not an Auburn resident there is a small admission fee. I think around $3.
Have fun everyone

I guess if we all make our way towards the entrance at around 11.00am we shouldn't be too hard to miss. From memory I think there's a little red wooden bridge just around there.

Sincere apologies all but I cannot make it this morning, I have just run out of time, unfortunately. My 30D sits forlorn, untouched, unloved in it's dark case, waiting to see the light. The G9 (it's small sibling) is getting all the use now.

LIndy and I decided that a weekend in the mountains was required, so off we went. 7C cold last night, which means we had to fins a way to keep ourselves warm. Gave the new Contis on the 230 a bit of a run too. Service at the Paragon was slow, but the food was, as always ..... decadent. Visited the Norman Lindsay Museum on the way back down; my first time there ... every house should have grounds like that 49 acres, a couple of fountains, a studio with a southlight ... Sorry, but didn't make it back in time. (that was never going to happen. ) A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
