NYE Fireworks

Postby biggerry on Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:59 pm

Righto, Since moving to sydney all those years ago, I have only once braved the crowds at circular quay to see the fireworks and to be honest I was too intoxicated at the time to enjoy them anyways... :?

Soo...this year I am goning to have a crack at trying to see the fireworks and take a few pictures, this will be a first for me..the pictures of fireworks part anyway :)

I am sure there are few of you sydney siders who have done this before, can anyone make sugesstions for good locations? especially considering the fact that every man and his blue dog is gonna be out ....pushbike in?

I plan to take one lens, tripod and remote. Small aperture, focus to infinity, tripod, remote shutter, iso at 100...anything else ground breaking that I should know? Any tips and tricks? :?:

I appreciate any input

Surprise surprise I am thinking of doing the same (thinking 17-50mm f/2.8). I will probably try to meet up with a friend or two and try my luck at one of the spots I have previously scouted out.

Shhhh!!! the end of the wharf 7 where the maritime museum is at Darling Harbour, Prymont Bay ferry wharf (not the best views but from past experiences it has been fairly empty).

Anyone else have anything else?

Yawn .....

Grab a boat and get on the water. Then the crowds don't matter too much.

boat and get on the water

hmm.. so your offering yours? how about i pick it up from bondi and push off from the beach :D

And since i am not gonna afford anything bigger than a dingy, it might have issue with the tripod, especially with those expensive boats and their wakes

wharf 7 where the maritime museum

sounds alright, makes for a shorter push bike ride in also :P

Me and my mate will mingle in the city first then head for wharf 7 (this is a new location for me but looks promising) for the midnight fireworks, anyone else going to be there?

Cameron,

I am going to be there...somewhere, not 100% sure exactly where :D given that quite a few spots will get closed off once they are full and I do not plan to spend all day waiting I am going to play it by ear as the time gets nearer! I am going to pushbike it around as much as possible...

Can anyone else give advice on what locations are typically get closed (ie full) early on the south side? I would really love to try macquaries chair but at 20, 000 people I think my patience level would be a whole lot of 15 seconds...

C'mon, I am sure some of you experienced guys/gals have done this all before and have advice to give... :D
