Saturday 12 mini meet as special event

Postby birddog114 on Tue Mar 08, 2005 7:35 am

Hi All,
Saturday 12/3 mini meet at my base as usual at 8:00am, but more special with prizes award to Rockstar and Glen, 1st & 2nd winner of the Challenge No:3. And Rockstar will have & announce the subject of the next challenge, my guess!
And I'll announce the first prize for the challenge No:4.
All the Admins will be here, and welcome to all other members.

Edit: VR Club opens at normal time

I need to make it to another meet soon to check out all the tripod gear (yes, still trying to decide what I need!!!!).

Have a good meet all.

Looking forward to this too.
How do I get there from Sydney Central? I dont have a car so I'm presuming there is a train or a bus or something.

If I just get on a bus and ask for a ticket to Birddogs I presume the bus driver will give me a nod a dna wink and say "Of course sir, no fare, please sit and I'll let you know when you get there". Such is the legend.

Catch a train to Belmore station and walk down... from the looks of it, it's only a 10 minute walk from the station.

A D2X perhaps?

We were in Vanbar in Carlton yesterday (just a 5 minute walk from our hotel) and they told us that they had already delivered their first one ... PP7K.

Seriously, it promises to be a good meet. Have fun all those who're going. Congrats to the challenge winners - and Rokkstar hope you choose a suitably challenging theme for the next one!

Hi Birddog...
I desperately want to be there for all the special events (and for the normal reasons of course), but I need to be at the Lion King with my family at 2pm...

I'm trying to get my wife to accompany me to the meet, so that we can enjoy both events, but I need a little (lot of) help !!!

A couple of weeks ago you floated the idea of having photo sessions outside and cookery lessons inside... My wife (Sharon) was very impressed with the noodle salad that you brought to the Bobbin Head meet and would love to learn how to do it... Any chance???
If so, I will also be able to bring my ever willing model / daughter...

It would also help enormously if other people could bring their spouses / children... Any takers? If more than 5 kids come, I'll bring our paddling pool...

Just an idea...
Cheers, John

G'day Everydoby

Postby TheJitz on Wed Mar 09, 2005 8:57 am

G'day Sydney D70 Users,

I'm new here. I was invited to join by Geoff from Manly. He had a lot of good things to say about the crew. I bought a D70 and an 18-70mm Nikkor 4 weeks ago and, as a result, have left my girlfriend to marry it. I really love that camera. I bought myself a Canon AE-1 about 2 years ago to learn to basics and to see if I like photography. The rest is obvious. I've never been part of a forum/club before that is made entirely of avid, keen people who's interests are my interests, so I don't really know what I do here now - could someone give me a crash course in web forum etiquette?
Anyways, I’m looking forward to working out my new lovechild's intricacies and unlocking my creative eye.
While I’m rambling, I am off to Japan on the first of April. Is Japan a good place to pick up a second lens or some other normally expensive item? If so, where's a good place to start ( that is, what items). I know that I want to get into shooting lightning and I love the clouds and sky as a subject. Landscapes in general I like also.

Nice to meet you all,

James

Welcome to the forum James! In terms of forum etiquette don't worry too much, just hang around and see how it works, you'll pick up the personalities and styles pretty fast! If you're good at puns I'm sure you'll fit right in.  Coming to the minimeets/meets is a very worthwhile thing too, compare and evaluate gear, techniques, etc. Also, make sure you post some images in the approptiate forum for critical evaluation, will improve your photography no end. :)

Thanks MCWB,

Sounds like it will be a good thing. What is the deal with the mini meets? Do i pay to get in? Who do i rub the right way? i can't possibly be folded in so easily just by buying a camera? I shall post some photos too.

You don't pay to get in... you might have to pay to leave, depending on how good you are at controlling lens lust or accessory lust or food lust (Ms. Birddog is truly excellent in the kitchen)...

Provided you don't rub Birddog, myself, or gstark the wrong way... it should all be fine... :)

There's no cover charge to get in, but your pockets will usually be a little lighter when you leave... Lens Lust takes over...

If you want to, you can always bring some food or drink items to lighten the load on Birddog...

Hop in a train at central Station (Bankstown line), get off Belmore Station and 5 min. walk to the base.

Can you get to the station there?

If so, it's an easy walk ... maybe 5 or so minutes, that's all.

UP!

The stairs, that is.

Then, I think you just head away from the shops for one block, cross at the traffic signals where the tyre place is, and Birddog's is in the middle of the next block.

Instructions given by a person who cannot remember the last time he took a train ride in Sydney!
