Grey Imports Vs Aus Stock

Hey guys
I’m looking at buying a Canon 40d
And I was wondering what your opinions were about 'grey' imports vs. overseas buying vs. Aus Stock
Mainly I was looking at these 4 companies

If anyone has had experience with these companies I would love some feedback as to weather I should buy from them

g/day, i bought something through digitalrev a few years back and had to pay some sort of tax.

i think through dd photographics you receive a tax invoice

I just bought a D80 at d d photographics. You get a tax invoice and they were good to deal with.

They seem to have a good reputation for warranty issues. I also like the fact that there is a shop front. I will keep using them.

I bought my Pentax K10D from bhphotovideo mid-last year and had no problems at all. The combination of exchange rate and MUCH better price than locally meant that my order was under the tax threshold of $AUD1000, too. ie. no tax.

That said, given it's an American product, I do have to recharge the batteries using an adapator

I regularly buy from B&H (pretty much anything I can't buy though this site - read the FAQ ). They are good to deal with and fairly prompt with shipping. Be aware that anything over AU$1000 will attract GST on the cost of the goods and the shipping, plus around $50 for lodging the customs declaration.

Where are you located? You need to put a meaningful location into your profile. Please refer to the message for mew members on the front page about what is meaningful.

And please review some of the existing and current threads about the traders that you're asking about.

Also, be aware that for imports that exceed Au$1K in value, you will most likely be still paying GST, plus, perhaps, a customs agent fee, plus, perhaps, a customs fee, where those imports are sourced from the USA.

And if you live in Australia, it makes no difference to yu if the item is a "US import" or "Grey". As it has not been imported via the Authorised Oz distributors, it is grey, and that is black and white.

Avoid DigitalRev. I read several complaints about this trader on few web sites.
I had bad experience with them myself. I think I described the problem on this portal before. I purchased p&s camera and could not return the camera for repair. It was under warranty.
