B&H Photo.....very happy :-)

Finally decided to purchase the SB-800 and placed my order online last Thursday night with B&H PhotoVideo in N.Y. I received shipping confirmation e-mail on the Friday and was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday afternoon, with my goods.
After some careful research, and some praying to the gods, I chose the USPS Global Express mail route, as there are some pretty unsavoury comments floating around about UPS couriers.
Not sure if I was just lucky or not, but I can only highly commend the service and speed in which B&H delivered my SB-800. Not only was it very easy, I also saved "at least" $350AUD purchasing online instead of purchasing from a local retailer.
Suffice to say, I am now the very proud owner of a SB-800. Looking forward to working out how to use it and posting some "well-lit" pics.

Hi Geoff, I bought a lense and a few other bits and bobs from them, and I found them to be relatively good. The only issue I had was they wrote in bold red letters across the box "tax not collected"...!!
ps: I went the USPS route as well

Yup, I had to pay tax on the stuff...!!!
Given the order was around $A700, I'd kinda expected that (although was hoping for it to have slipped by customs)...
What are you thinking of ordering?

I'd really love to come Genji...however with our recent additions to our family (the twins), my spare time for running off is VERY limited...so Fri night doesn't suit - at the moment.
But I will try to make it to a Melbourne meet in the near future.....

With UPS from B&H you will certainly be hit for not only gst, but their charges as well which are astronomical. USPS Express is the way to go IMO.

Wow, that is a good price.
I've just done a conversion and it looks like it can get into the country for $460. DId you have to pay any import duty or anything Dave?

I did, and all is good, there's just been a f*&k up with customs and auspost, birdy is certainly not at fault, just one of those VERY unlucky situations.

As it was via USPS (not UPS)...don't get these two confused....and the total amount was under $500AUD, no duties or taxes were required.
I did check everything out with the Australian Customs Office prior to ordering though. I think I have posted this somewhere....a long...long time ago

Dont mean to bring up an old topic but i wanted to share my experience with B&H.
I placed an order for a lens and hood (under the $1,000 threshold so no tax) late Monday afternoon and to my utter amazement it arrived on my door step late yesterday afternoon (Thursday), so 3 days from NY, USA to SYD, AU, amazing service everything in order, i will certainly be purchasing from them in the future.

Hi, no doubt they are busy the week before christmas, but I placed an order on Sunday, still no change in status, still "Processing".
I guess at this stage it is two full business days in NY, but would have expected something by now...
I feel I have been spoiled by the HK gents, unfortunately they didnt have the radio triggers I needed, so playing the waiting game form B+H.

I also ordered from B&H on the weekend, according to the tracking system it's now in transit in Sydney!
So hopefully I'll have a nice box of goodies when I get home!

I just called them, and they said the credit car verification went through yesterday (first time customer), and they plan to ship this morning...

I paid $460AUS for SB-800 delivered from CametaCamera. That stores sells many repacked items. SB-800 I purchased was brand new. Had I known this beforehand I would have purchased it locally.

B&H, pretty good delivery time considering Christmas.

It's probabbly a long shot, but has anyone bought anything second hand from them? There is a 30D there that is less then $1000USD including shipping, body only.

Why bother? you can get new for about that from HK. Or get your posts up to qualify for member price in here...? or new ebay?

I have not bought used equipment from them. However, B & H is a well respected store. The other highly rated store which specialises in selling used photography gear is KEH Camera.

Good point. I'm not sure how much it is from here, but ebay and the hk sites that I have looked into all have it around $1400 - $1500AUD, not including shipping.
I thoguht it might have been a decent deal, but maybe I was wrong

Members' price for the 30D body is Au$1440, including shipping.
That's new.
Why would you consider pre-owned?

Only for the savings. But looking at it now, for a $200 saving it is probabbly not worth it.

I think so. if it's extra $200 and it means getting a new camera, I'd buy the new one. I don't know the market for Canon gear, prices for Nikon gear for the members offered by poon, however, will be difficult to match.
